Die Wilhelm-Röntgen-Realschule liegt im Kreuzviertel der Stadt Dortmund. Aktuell besuchen ca. 500 Schülerinnen und Schüler die Schule.

Schwerpunkte des Schulprogramms:
Berufswahlkompetenz (z.B. Kompetenzcheck, Betriebspraktikum), Naturwissenschaftskompetenz (z.B. Kooperation mit dem KITZ.do, Schulen im Team, Wasserseminar), Sprach- und Lesekompetenz (z.B. Dortmunder Modell, Zeitungsprojekt, Lesementoring in Kooperation mit der Johannes-Wulff-Schule, Besuche der Stadt- und Landesbibliothek), Lernkompetenz (z.B. kooperative Lernformen, Förderung der Methodenkompetenz mit schuleigenem Curriculum), Sozialkompetenz (z.B. aktive SV-Arbeit; Streitschlichtung), Medienkompetenz (z.B. Computerführerschein, Selbstlernzentrum)

Die Wilhelm-Röntgen-Realschule hat immer eine besonders aktive Schülervertretung 8SV), die mit vielen Ideen und großem Einsatz das Schulleben gestaltet (z.B. T-Shirt-Aktion, Nikolaus-Aktion). Außerdem sind es Schüler/-innen der WRR, die die Streitschlichtung für jüngere Schüler/-innen anbieten.
