Hangouts Widget for Android
The ass-hats that updated Hangouts killed the widget! Seems to me because they are too incompetent to fix it the right way. I find that to be completely unacceptable coming from Google. They should be ashamed of themselves... fire the team currently working on it and hire all new. Anyway, this app/widget is about to see a surge in use/popularity!
Pretty much just a widget that listens for hangouts notifications, shows you them in a list and gives you a shortcut to open the app. No multi account handling, you still have to do that on your own in the app.
Like the new dark option too, but all it ever says is that there are no messages, even though I have several. So what we really have is a widget that doesn't work. A prettier one that doesn't work, while the attached one always did. Not impressed.
Love having a widget for hangout as I use that for my default texting app. The only thing I would change is I would love to b able to change font color! An when u hit on a conversation it takes u directly to that conversation instead of just opening hangout...
Problems with re-sizing the widget to a smaller size. Problems with column alignment and word justification inside the widget on smaller sizes. Otherwise, this is a good widget.
The Hangouts widget no longer works on my Samsung Note 3. When I go to add it to my screen, it says "Hangouts no longer available". This is a total bummer. I loved having the widget up on my screen so I could just take a quick glance and see who called my Gvoice number or text me without opening the app. Could this please be fixed so it works again?? I miss this feature of the program.
Love the transparent look. Fits well with how I keep all my widgets. Clean interface. Only thing I would wish for is if it could open the specific conversation that you click on but I don't think it's possible since it's a third party app. Only real option for a hangouts widget now since Google yanked the official widget from hangouts.
Chat threads don't update, can't open specific conversions from the widget, photos don't display. The only feature it shares with the app it's trying to replace is the fact that it doesn't work and it takes up space. Would gladly have paid money for a functioning app.
2 years since an update!? There have been many good suggestions to fix some issues but i haven't seen anything from the devs. Doesn't open individual messages(might as well just use the hangouts app on my home screen). Resizing the widget lacks full capability. I like to make it 1 space wide and full height, this only goes to 2 spaces wide.
Like the new dark option too. But all it ever says is that there are no messages, even though I have several. So what we really have is a widget that doesn't work. A prettier one that doesn't work, while the attached one always did. Not impressed.
- Clicking on a message takes me to my list of messages in the Hangouts app. - Individual msgs in group conversions sometimes get displayed as separate msgs in the widget. - Sometimes the widget shows the message and sometimes it only shows "new message". It's a great start though. Looking forward to the next update.
At first, I didn't see a point to downloading this because Hangouts has its own widget. However, this one is a little more customizable with a light or dark themed option. It also shows just the person's reply message, not like Hangouts which shows your last response, which isn't as useful. Awesome job.
Great! Its nice that I have my Hangouts widget back! I do wish that it shows all my existing messages but instead it shows the ones after you install it. I also wish it would take me straight to the conversation I click on but instead it just puts me on the app. But it's better than no widget!
Widget doesn't work for multiple Android users. At first, it only shows up for the main user but not for other users on the same phone. After several reboots, the widget was available for the other users. Nexus 6p
This concept/feature has been around for as long I can remember. If hangouts is your default sms app, which I recommend strongly, look in your widgets and go to "H" and you'll see the widget. No need to install this app. Waste of space IMO. I'll give you 2*s, devs. Because the app is sleek looks amazing.
The original hangouts widget shows in selection buy once you drag onto screen it says no longer available. So I thought there could be another one...found it and installed. Now this one says I have no messages! But when you tap green icon on the widget all messages show there. It could be a ton better since I try to use this often but next get notifications when a new message arrives. :(
I like there are messages from different accounts included (but this should be configurable) and the dark theme option. What's really missing is the option to hide conversations that have been already from the widget. Last update was Jan 2014 so I won't try to "hold out" for new feature - at least this provides a big missing component.
This widget works fine but there are several issues which I would like to be addressed. 1. Unread messages are displayed but when they are read, they are still dispayed and not removed from the widget. 2. When I select a message, it doesn't take me directly into the msg but into the app rather. Please develop the app to go directly into that message I select in the widget and remove that message from the widget once I read it. Thanks and kind regards
I do not get notifications. The only way I know I have messages is if I go into the widget and open it up. Its a waste of space.
I love the 3x3 widget. I can use it on half-screen with my widget calendar which is awesome ! It is far better than opening the app. I am super bummed that I updated my apps and it killed the widget. Resurrection requested.
For a while now I get a message when starting my Note Edge that Hangouts widget is not available. I tried adding it again to my home page but now I get the message twice when I start up. I assume that a Samsung update caused the bug, or related to the Buzz Launcher I use. The widget is not visible in any way. Uninstalling.
Using stock t-mobile galaxy s5. Messages rarely refresh. Only shows me 3 old messages. But on s4 worked great
I never get notifications this sucks. I get tons of texts and nothing ever shows up.So deleting it.
Doesn;t really work. after installing - it seems to work for a little while, then 1. half of my messages don't appear (ie - SMS sent from or received on my PC ... sometimes/sometimes not appear in the widget( 2. then all of a sudden - it stops displaying ANY hangout message. I suspect this happens every time Google updates the Hangouts program - which means this widget must be uninstalled and reinstalled. and also setup icon appears when you initially set up the widget, but you can never find it again (which means you cannot hope to do anything about 1 or 2 above) The Play store says this widget was last updated in Jan 2014. This might explain a lot ... too bad. Lots of potential
The widget doesn't update with the conversations. I have 10-20 messagea in hangouts that never show up in the widget
when I set up a new widget, there's a slider to increase or decrease/remove transparency. Unfortunately, it doesn't work. I tried several times to put a widget in place with no transparency, but it stays transparent. Can it be because there is no Save option? Or is the setting just supposed to take effect after you slide it, but it's not working? As it is, this widget is useless because I can't see it unless I delete my wallpaper.
This is about to get a lot more popular now that Google has pulled the widget from it's app. Does what its supposed to pretty well. Too bad it can't pull in previous messages, but sounds like it's out of dev's control. Two suggestions. First is include an option to change text size used in the widget - being able to make it smaller would allow to show more messages. Second is being able to click a message in the widget goes directly to that message in hangouts. Thx for the consideration dev!
I would like to be able to open separate messages/convs from the widget. It doesn't work for me right now.
Yes it's a widget that shows some of your recent messages. Unfortunately it doesn't act how you'd expect. Most importantly it doesn't allow you to click into individual messages, it just opens the app. Without added functionality I really can't recommend this app as it stands today.
I don't know why the widget was removed from the primary app. Google is probably trying to find out how many people are using widget. If the numbers are not there they probably will kill the widget. The widget is not updated when I delete messages from main app.
Doesn't let you click into individual messages nor does it upload previous messages when widget is first installed. No reason for widget...
I don't want to rate it low but it kinda sucks because i have the app but no icon so i can't get to it unless i go to send a picture and press hangouts so i downloaded the hangout widget. I finally found it but it won't let me start a new message. Please help me figure this out if I'm doing something wrong.

Doesn't update with conversation. Also, it would be good if tapping the conversation opened that conversation and not the general app.
DO NOT GET USELESS IT DOESNT WORK ON TABLETS if it does please let me know
Archived messages don't clear from the widget and clicking a message just brings you to the main screen.
I know like good all hearing friends will maybe new met friends are all hearing good social with friends are all hearing good talk chat nice friends it best hearing like with my best friends it maybe will new met friends are all hearing .
So in order to be a great widget, the app must function as expected. When I place this on my home screen, I expect, when I tap on a conversation, to be taken to that conversation and not just the hangouts root view. No excuses dev.
I wanted to add it to my home screen, but it's not showing up in my widget list when I try. I need this widget to work now that the official Hangouts widget is gone.
