Teak does have advantages in terms of elegance and durability. In addition to its beauty, teak also has some natural properties that are not owned by other types of wood.

Teak is always a valuable material. Tree with the name Tectona grandis is a native tropical plant, like Indonesia. Since about the 7th century, teak has been used for clothing and decorate the dwellings of the rich and powerful. This wood reputation spread to other areas brought by the Dutch when colonizing Indonesia. They use wood for shipbuilding because teak is able to withstand a large sturdy ship and its ability to withstand decomposition.
 Teak wood has natural weatherproof properties, stronger than almost all other wood species. When dried to the right humidity level (about 10% of the original condition) oil and sap make wood resistant to weather. Oil also protects the wood from decay, which is a common problem in old wood furniture. What's more, oil and sap protect the wood core from disruptions such as fungi and parasites that can damage wood. Protecting regular wood furniture from such disturbances requires special care and oil, but not so with teak.
