When it comes to finding a wooden wardrobe for your home, the equally important first two questions to ask are: what size wardrobe are you looking for, and which type of wood would you prefer.

Wardrobe Sizes

If you are looking for a standalone wardrobe and not a custom installation which is built to fit exactly into the available space in your bedroom, there are 3 wardrobe sizes that are available to you:

Single
Double
Triple
The difference in size between each will be proportionately incremental; for example the double will be twice as big as the single, and the triple three times the size of the single, with each model having the equivalent number of doors (1, 2, or 3).

For most people sharing a bedroom, a double sized wardrobe is sufficient, but with a triple wardrobe the additional space can negate the need for an additional item of furniture such as a chest of drawers.

The single size is easier to find than the other 2 sizes, and typically used in a child's bedroom, or in a room where space is limited. Unlike the double and triple wardrobes, a single model will rarely include a drawer.

Both of the larger sizes are available with a number of drawer combinations regardless of the type of wood. In most instances the drawers will be full or half-length, with some of the larger triple wardrobes providing up to 8 individual drawers.

If you already have - or are planning to buy - a chest of drawers, purchasing a wardrobe without drawers may end up saving you money, as the models with integrated drawers tend to cost more than those without.

Once the size has been ascertained, and whether or not drawers are required, it's time to determine which wood would be most suitable.

Types of Wood

While it is possible to find wardrobes in many types of wood, oak and pine are by far the most popular and common; mahogany, mango, and beech follow some way behind.

Pine is an excellent choice and the neutrality of the wood makes it a flexible option no matter what colour the walls are. The popularity of pine furniture also means that you will have no trouble finding additional furniture pieces in the same style to complement your new wardrobe.

Oak enjoys the same benefits as pine, but edges it in terms of both popularity and availability. Solid oak wardrobes (made exclusively from premium grade oak timbers as opposed to veneer substitutes) are the premium oak wardrobe category and are surprisingly affordable. What's more, they look fantastic and last for many years, so end up delivering exceptional value for money.

If you are a bespoke furniture fan and love to design furniture of your own, then here are few tips that you would love to know while designing a customized wardrobe and cupboard. Also, as you already know, wooden cupboard and wardrobe looks more beautiful.

Design your wardrobe according to your needs. That is if you wear clothes that are meant to be hung in then get more hanging space instead of shelves. Design it in a combination of drop rails, short drops, drawers and shelves. Analyze what suites you the most.
If you have a huge variety of foot wear, then get more shelves at the lower part of the wardrobe so it accommodate your shoes.
If you wear long boots like cowboy boots or other boots then design the foot wear shelves accordingly
Never ever forget to have handy drawers for storage. They can be very useful where you can put your socks, underwear, etc.
If you are looking for a sliding door wardrobe, make sure you match interior segments to the number of sliding doors. For example if you have 4 doors then you should 3 segments to ensure easy opening.
Always check that the slider mechanism is working properly. A piece of advice, sliding doors are more fancy but can be a headache if they don't work well.
Give a space of around about a meter from the ground for hanging jackets otherwise they will pick up the dust from the floor.
