About PYKL3 Radar (USA NEXRAD/TDWR)

Why settle for smoothed images of low resolution radar that claim to be high resolution when you can have the REAL data as delivered from National Weather Service radars? Smoothed "street level" "high resolution" radar is a visualization gimmick which compromises data quality. The data that NWS radar generates appears pixelated to inexperienced users, but there is a reason it looks that way - accuracy! This is what PYKL3Radar provides--the most accurate dataset available. If you want professional grade information instead of pretty pictures, you have come to the right place! Combine that with its unmatched customization with 40+ data layers, PYKL3Radar holds its place as the highest rated radar viewer for Android since its introduction in 2010

PYKL3 Radar (pronounced Pickle Radar) was the first level 3 radar viewer for Android. It remains the most advanced, yet simple to use application for United States radar information. PYKL3Radar is intended for users who want more out of a weather radar viewer...much more! PYKL3Radar also gives you surface observation plots (ground truth), satellite imagery, and virtually every National Weather Service text product wrapped with a highly customizable experience. Designed with first responders, spotters, emergency management officials, and chasers in mind, PYKL3 continues to push the limits of what is possible on Android by embracing the ideas of a very active user community. PYKL3 is the only Android viewer with customizable colors, including the radar color table. What's more, your location is constantly displayed right on top of the radar imagery. PYKL3 Radar is the application for having the critical weather data you need.
Radar data from every operational National Weather Service WSR-88D and FAA Terminal Doppler Weather Radar (TDWR) site is delivered to your phone with products ranging from standard reflectivity to the newest dual-pol variables. Need more? Pull up the latest satellite imagery or warning products with the touch of your screen. With an optional subscription to AllisonHouse.com or CaprockWeather.com, add the display of graphical severe weather outlooks, convective watch boxes, local storm reports, storm tracks, and lightning.
Supported by a fantastic user community, PYKL3 Radar is brought to you by a developer with a passion for weather for serious users of radar data.

It worked then now shuts down have uninstalled and reloaded. Cleaned data and cache still nothing and after paying $11 not happy Fixed issue do i will give a 4 instead of a 2

It was a great app at first but now the viewset files delete periodically making the customization useless. I have contacted customer support numerous times about the issue and was told that the problem was my phone and not the app but I have had this issue on 2 different phones and also have spoke to people who have the same problem. The radar is not something I use on a daily basis and do not like having to take the time to reconfigure everything every time I open the app. I have never had this problem with any other apps. So, I don't see how the problem is my phone. Do your homework before deciding which radar app to purchase. What made pykl3 better than the others was the customization. Without that it's just another radar app.

The best most fully featured radar app for Android. If you have a decent understanding of how doppler radar works Pykl3 is amazing. Almost unbelievable power in your pocket. Thank you to all who work/have worked on this app!

Killer. Like the people responsible for our "natural" disasters. Take a look if in doubt.

The most comprehensive and accurate radar app available. Worth the one-time cost.

Great app. Best weather radar app out there. Very precise radar. I would recommend this app for anyone who wants the weather radar

After this much-needed update, we now have OUR version of iPhone's Radarscope. Good work on this much-needed update! Love AH warning polygons too...

R70%
by R####:

Complete trash. Does not even loop. Just sits there with things flashing here and there. Not a plain and simple radar. Uninstalled.

by F####:

Constantly crashes. Poor support. Don't recommend for spotters.

Best radar app.

R70%

Wonderful app! I've been using this for about a year and it's been marvelous. I love the velocity radar extremely smooth and helps to indicate where to look when rain wrapped. I've been chasing for about 3 years and studying meteorology for nearly 7. I wish I had stumbled across this sooner. Would've made chasing alot easier. I love the variety of satellites and customizable options. Only thing I would recommend is fixing the real-time. 75% of the time it works great but the other 25% it wont show the path of the storm it will just jump around. Other than that 10/10!

M70%
by M####:

I think it is a great app for weather. I am still learning on radar and when I initially contacted Pykl3 for support, they were excellent with the resources they have to help me benefit from being able to use the app. Do I struggle with the use of the app? Yes, however, it's by my own fault. Both Pykl3 and RadarScope are both very valuable resources to have as it's a great idea to have more than one resource to look at. As we all know, someone can learn something new every day. Thank you Pykl3.

R70%
by R####:

Incredibly useful for those of us trained weather spotters when storms come through. In-app purchase was well worth it! Would really like to have better Spotter Network support. To make a report, you just get directed to the SN website. Any way to make a SN report from within the app without all the extra steps? When time is critical, the ability to make quick reports is vital. Last night's weather made that hurdle a very apparent problem.

I own both Radarscope and PYKL3 and love them both. This app is great for detailed severe weather analysis and is very customizable for your needs. The new EVAPS view is awesome, a fantastic addition to the app! In addition, the Dev is very active and responsive to problems or issues. 5 stars all around! Not sure if it's possible without a third party subscription service, but I'd love to see a lightning display and a level 2 feed. Even without these extra features, the core app is highly useful!

C70%
by C####:

Absolutely best real-time radar available. Only thing missing is lightning detection which can be purchased through 3rd parties at a subscription cost. But still the best and as an extra class amateur radio operator and certified storm spotter, I've tried them all.

R70%
by R####:

Perfect radar picture. I work outdoors and use this app nearly every day and every hour during storms. It shows a real time picture of what's happening. You can pick any station to see what's coming. I've had this app for more than a year. Worth every penny.

H70%
by H####:

Amazing! It's just like having GRLevel3 on my phone or tablet! The same Allison House data I have on my PC is available on my devices, and with the customization, even the same color scheme and placefiles!!!! And can you say Dual Pol? The developer is very responsive as well! LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!! Beware though, this is not a simple basic app for those who just want to see if weather is coming their way, this is a serious forecasting tool for people who need access to the latest and greatest NWS radar products and who know at least a little bit about what they are looking at.

As a fire lieutenant and dispatcher, PYKL3 has been an invaluable tool both before, and during severe weather events. All my questions have been answered promptly. Great customer service. I recommend PYKL3 to everyone. Great job!

Excellent app for monitoring location and movement of severe weather via mobile device. Developers are very attentive to users' needs and make updates promptly, when needed.

Great when it works. Inconsistent loading of the map and animations glitching due to it are annoying.

I've been using this app for a few years now. The updates somehow keep improving an already outstanding app. Let's the little weather nerd in me have some fun.

I Like it and it's worth the money for sure .And there seems to be great support for the app . Keep up the great work guy's, and i really like the new evaps worth the extra few $$

R70%

This app was great up until recently, now when I start it it gets frozen on the loading screen that says "PYKL3 Highways: Initializing GIS data for KLWK." Right now I'm in Baltimore.

Q70%
by Q####:

Best weather radar app period. And very good customer support. Quick and willing to work with you to solve any problem.

L70%

I love thus weather radar app I love the velocity mode to see the tornado indicated by radar. I am a storm spotter I will use this and radarscope for storm spotting and a warning coordination meteorologist after college.

Z70%
by Z####:

Easy to use, but aimed at tech-savvy users. Excellent radar imagery and impressive array of customization settings. Not a simple "my local forecast" app; detailed meteorological imagery is the goal here, and the app delivers that very nicely.

M70%
by M####:

This is the best app for anyone who has at least some weather training. If you know what "vertically integrated liquid" means, then you need this app.

C70%
by C####:

This is by far the best and most accurate weather app. I am a big weather enthusiast and no amount of money is worth the safety of my family.

R70%

I have had this application for almost four or five years now. There are plenty of other radar apps on the market. The biggest competitor to this app is Radarscope. I have tried both of these applications and didn't care for radarscope that much. Pykl3 is loaded with so much more. Some of the features Pykl3 has are the ability to display icons for hail, mesocyclones and etc. These are features the competition doesn't have. This is stuff you would find in a application like GrLevelX on Windows. A new add on called EVAPS was just added. Makes tilt 1-4 look really smooth and nice.. Pykl3 Has Dual Pol, the ability to show wind barbs and temps and look at satellite data. That's a lot. This is a excellent meteorological app and I recommend it.

R70%
by R####:

Tons of great features. The developers are always improving the experience. Definitely worth the small price tag! Would be nice to have a legend for the color scales.

R70%
by R####:

Pykl3 Radar is a very good for first responders and for weather spotters because it let's you see almost everything the National Weather forecasters see.

L70%
by L####:

The BEST weather radar app I ever used! It is highly configurable so it does take some time to learn about all the various radar settings, but well worth the time.

J70%
by J####:

Invaluable Tool for SKYWARN, Law Enforcement, Fire & Rescue, and EMS... Real Time, No Fluff Tool that interacts with other apps, and provides excellent data on storm development/severity/tornadic activity...

X70%
by X####:

No way to add Allison House subscription to tablet version. The "motives" were is I pay for AH data, and would have expected to be able to use it on "the best radar " app, but apparently not on a tablet. Works excellent on my Samsung phone, but no menu/option on the tablet!
