ŚWIATOWE CENTRUM KULTU MIŁOSIERDZIA BOŻEGO

Sanktuarium Bożego Miłosierdzia w Krakowie-Łagiewnikach mieści się najpierw w obiekcie klasztornym Zgromadzenia Sióstr Matki Bożej Miłosierdzia, który powstał w 1891 roku jako fundacja księcia A. Lubomirskiego dla dziewcząt i kobiet potrzebujących głębokiej odnowy moralnej.
W okresie międzywojennym w tym klasztorze żyła i zmarła s. M. Faustyna Kowalska (1905-1938), przez którą Chrystus Pan przekazał Kościołowi i światu orędzie o Bożym miłosierdziu. Przybliża ono tajemnicę miłosierdzia Bożego, wzywa do zaufania Panu Bogu i postawy miłosierdzia wobec bliźnich, a także do głoszenia i wypraszania miłosierdzia Bożego dla świata m.in. przez praktykę nowych form kultu (obraz Jezusa Miłosiernego, święto Miłosierdzia, koronka do Miłosierdzia Bożego i godzina Miłosierdzia).

W 1943 roku krakowski spowiednik Siostry Faustyny o. J. Andrasz SI poświęcił pierwszy obraz Jezusa Miłosiernego pędzla A. Hyły, ofiarowany jako wotum za ocalenie rodziny z wypadków wojennych, i zainicjował uroczyste nabożeństwa ku czci Miłosierdzia Bożego. Obraz szybko zasłynął łaskami, dlatego z roku na rok zwiększała się liczba pielgrzymów, którzy nawiedzali także grób zmarłej w opinii świętości Siostry Faustyny.

Bardzo dynamiczny rozwój kultu Miłosierdzia Bożego nastąpił po beatyfikacji Siostry Faustyny (18 kwietnia 1993) i jej kanonizacji (30 kwietnia 2000), a także dzięki pielgrzymkom Ojca Świętego Jana Pawła II do Łagiewnik (1997 i 2002). Spowodował on rozbudowę sanktuarium, m.in. wzniesienie nowego kościoła - bazyliki, którą 17 sierpnia 2002 roku konsekrował Piotr naszych czasów. W tym też miejscu Papież zawierzył cały świat Miłosierdziu Bożemu.

It brings the mystery of Divine Mercy, calls for trust in the Lord and the attitude of mercy toward one's neighbors, and also to preach and imploring God's mercy for the world, including through the practice of new forms of worship (the image of the Merciful Jesus, the Feast of Mercy, Chaplet of Divine Mercy and Time of Mercy).

In 1943, the Cracow confessor of Sister Faustina. J. Andrasz SI devoted the first image of the Merciful Jesus brush A. Hyła, offered as a votive offering for saving his family during the war, and initiated solemn devotions in honor of Divine Mercy. The image quickly became famous for graces, so year-on-year increase in the number of pilgrims who haunted the grave who died in the odor of sanctity of Sister Faustina.

Very dynamic development of the cult of Divine Mercy followed the beatification of Sister Faustina (18 April 1993) and the canonization (30 April 2000), and also thanks to pilgrimages of the Holy Father John Paul II to Łagiewniki (1997 and 2002).
