About MediDSS
MEDIDSS is a cloud Clinical Decision Support System developed by Medilogy, based on Duodecim EBMeDS, an inferential engine, which brings Evidence Based Medicine into practice by means of context-sensitive guidance at the point of care.
Use this app to access your MEDIDSS subscription on your tablet. If you don’t have one yet, download the app and get a free 30 days trial.
EBMeDS is developed by Duodecim Medical Publications Ltd, a Finnish company owned by the Finnish Medical Society Duodecim. Both the association and the company have a long-standing collaborative relationship with the Cochrane Collaboration, the GRADE Working Group and the Guidelines International Network (G-I-N).
The MEDIDSS inferential engine EBMeDS is based on scripts consisting of a set of more than 800 complex rules which implement the clinical logic of the system. All scripts will have a direct link to graded evidence, Cochrane reviews, EBM guidelines, journal articles, web sites and various other sources of information.
The process used by Duodecim Medical Publications to produce EBMeDS has been accredited by the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE). EBMeDS is the first Clinical Decision-Support product to obtain NHS Evidence Accreditation in recognition for the methodology applied.
MEDIDSS provides reminders and prompt alerts and recommendations on pathologies, diagnosis and therapies. MEDIDSS is easy to use, fast and effective.
MEDIDSS includes the following modules:
• Rule Assistant
• Drug Assistant
• Guideline Assistant
• Form Assistant
RULE ASSISTANT
The MEDIDSS Rule Assistant is build upon a set of evidence-based healthcare decision support rules, called scripts. Technically speaking, a script is a piece of program code.
Rule Assistant returns three categories of messages:
• Reminders
• Prompts
• Alerts
Messages can be changed according to the user's profile: physician, nurse or patient.
DRUG ASSISTANT
The MEDIDSS Drug Assistant is designed to assist clinicians in the selection of appropriate drugs and in the adjustment of drug treatments, by taking into account as many factors as possible. The Drug Assistant uses patient data to customize medical recommendations according to:
• Age
• Renal function
• Adverse drug reaction history
• Ongoing medication
• Current medical diagnosis
• Pregnancy and lactation
The Drug Assistant returns reminders about drug-to-drug interactions, drug contraindications, drug indication and/or recommendation as well as specific information about renal malfunction, pregnancy and lactation.
The Drug Assistant is based on Medbase’s SFINX, Renbase, Gravbase and Lactbase databases.
GUIDELINE ASSISTANT
The MEDIDSS Guideline Assistant returns a customized set of links based on a patient’s diagnostic record. It generally provides the Duodecim Evidence-Based Medicine Guidelines (EBMG) as a default standard guideline set, but other guideline sets can be added to the app by indexing other guidelines through a diagnostic coding system ( e.g. ICD-10, ICD-9CM etc.).
Links may be opened within MEDIDSS, without leaving the application.
The Guideline links can be changed according to the user’s profile: physician, nurse or patient.
FORM ASSISTANT
The MEDIDSS Form Assistant is based on scripts that allow for patient data to be incorporated into different types of electronic form templates. The link lists are generated based on available patient data (e.g. links to diagnosis-specific screen views get displayed only if the specified diagnosis features on the patient’s medical record).
The typical form templates are:
• Calculators
• Consultation and/or Referrals letters
• Plans (e.g. care plans or rehabilitation plans)
• Certificates
• Discharge notes
• Interactive algorithms charts
• Diagnosis-specific overviews
