In fact, it is nothing like the wallpaper you remember hanging on the walls in your grandma's house. Today's home wallpaper is chic, trendy, vibrant, and a great addition to any home.

Where to Use Home Wallpaper

Wallpaper can be used in any room of your home. In fact, in a well-designed home décor, you will use a variety of different wall treatments. This includes using a variety of different paints and wallpapers throughout the home. By varying the wall treatments, you can create more interest in your design while giving the space more personality.

Wallpaper is particularly useful when trying to create a masculine look, such as in a den. Plaid wallpaper or types with a paisley design, for example, creates a rich, masculine look and provides a level of depth and dimension that cannot be achieved with flat paint.

Using Wallpaper in Your Décor

Not only do today's wallpaper designs look amazing, wallpaper is also very easy to use. While the traditional glue-and-paste wallpaper is still an option, there are new designs that make it even easier to cover your walls with stylish designs. In fact, you can get wallpaper that simply peels on and off the wall as needed.

This simplified wallpaper is made with nonwoven, breathable materials. As a result, the backing is permeable and air and moisture can move easily through the material. This means the paper maintains approximately 95% of its glue and peels off in full sheets. So, when you are ready for a new look, you can easily pull the paper off and wash down the walls before applying a different wall treatment.

If you are afraid of messing up the pattern, many of today's wallpaper designs contain "match points." These marks are printed directly on the paper so you can easily line up the design. Then, once it is in place, you simply wash the marks away with water.

Exploring New Wallpaper Designs

One of the most exciting characteristics of wallpaper is the fact that there are so many designs to choose from. In fact, wallpaper doesn't have to be simply about repeating a certain pattern. Mural wall coverings, for example, allow you to create a beautiful or intriguing scene on your wall. Or, you might choose to incorporate textured wall coverings into your décor. From animal textures to grass cloth designs, the possibilities are endless. You can even find designs made with fake fur, feathers, and gypsum rock. Be very careful of crazy wallpaper designs and funky wallpaper designs that may seem like a good fit for your home upon first impressions- you are likely to regret your choice once the novelty value wears off. The same goes for overly gaudy designs that may remind you of a more carefree period in history or your own life. Unless you truly like such designs, it's better to go for something more conservative and tasteful. That's not to say that some of the vintage wallpaper designs out there wouldn't work- gaudiness can be a virtue if done right. Unfortunately, it rarely is and it can be a challenge to find something that would work in your home.

Simple, solid colors can work great and create a more dramatic effect than many wallpapers. Red wallpaper designs are often used to create an energy in a room, but be careful not to overdo it as no one wants to feel "fiery" all the time, especially in a room meant for relaxing.
