About Latest Hair Coloring Ideas
Buttery blondes, sexy shades of brown, fiery ombrés, fantasy colors from pastel to dark purple — there are so many hair color trends to choose from as we kick off the new year, you may be tempted to try a new one each month!
Buttery Blonde
After a few years of cool blonde shades popping up all over, warm blondes are making a comeback. "Think more buttery beige and sandy blondes, less icy blondes," says celebrity stylist Brian O'Connor.
Violet
Fantasy colors aren't going anywhere, but if you've been reluctant to try one because it requires bleaching and you have dark hair, this may be just right for you. The deep bluish-purple will show up without lightening your hair first. You could even do it yourself with a formula like Manic Panic Ultra Violet
Deliberate Roots
Lazy ladies, rejoice — this hair trend is big in Hollywood right now and is set to be huge for 2016. "Ask your colorist to put a darker semi-permanent color at the roots while leaving the face frame and the ends lighter, allowing for purposeful roots," recommends Clairol Color Director James Corbett. "This trend is perfect for that woman on a budget who still wants to look hip and trendy while letting her color grow out seamlessly." Anything that lets you wait an extra couple of weeks before heading to the salon is a-okay in our book!
Carob
This rich shade of brown is warm without crossing over into reddish territory — as so many warm brown shades do — making it super-flattering on all different types of skin undertones.
Lightly Toasted Blonde
Allison Williams has struck a perfect balance with this polished-yet-natural-looking shade of blonde: It's rich and warm without being brassy, light without washing out her skin, and dimensional without looking overly highlighted.
Super-Subtle Ombré
This season's ombré looks nothing like the almost dip-dyed look of ombrés past. In the case of Sofia Vergara, her length and ends are only a smidge lighter than her crown, and the transition is truly seamless.
Balayage and Babylights
Los Angeles colorist Chrissie Plisky blended two highlighting techniques — balayage and babylights — for bright, beautiful dimension, while adding a rooty look "so she can wear it longer without having to get it touched up as often."
Succulent Tones
It's safe to say that succulents — everyone's favorite plant — are having a major (and unexpected) hair moment. This multi-toned look is cropping up all over Instagram, where it's being recreated and reinterpreted with different degrees of intensity — some opt for darker hues (think jade plants) and others are trying brighter, more neon shades (think aloe vera). Regardless, the key is to build the color piece-by-piece from the base-up. Weave in purple and magenta hues at the ends, moody turquoise through the lengths, and, finally, jade near the crown.
Chocolate Rose Gold
You can officially call 2016 the year of rose gold hair, with celebrities as well as beauty bloggers loving up on this shimmery shade. This version, by colorist Mark South, features pink tones along the bottom with deeper brown hues up top to prevent the need for a touchup every six weeks on the dot.
Geode Hair
Looking to add color to your hair, but don't want to bleach it? With minimal stripping, this amethyst-to-navy ombré is gentle on hair and in terms of color, truly lives up to its gem namesake.
Warm Peach
Just when you thought hair colors were about to cool down, this juicy shade is breathing new life into hairstyles all over. Take this fun look that colorist Alex Brownsell created for model Georgia May Jagger. Wary of its intensity? Don't worry — both soft and vibrant orange hues are surprisingly flattering on most skin tones.
