About Modern Kitchen Designs
Kitchens can enhance the interior of your home and add personality to the space, no matter what style they are. If you prefer modern spaces and want to get cozy in a contemporary kitchen but aren't sure where to start, there are some considerations to keep in mind.
Going green - more and more people these days are opting for greener kitchen designs. Modern kitchens are popular and, contrary to what some people may think, don't look unattractive at all! Features you can find in green kitchens include recycled paper countertops, bamboo flooring, LED lighting and energy efficient appliances.
Minimal décor - modern kitchens are meant to be minimalist; the old saying "less is more" holds true for contemporary kitchens. A few open shelves, a modern picture or painting for the wall, a small backsplash - all these design elements are simple and modern.
Neutral colors - not only do modern kitchens thrive on neutral tones, but you also won't find a lot of different colors. If you want to add splashes of color to contrast the neutral shades, it's fine as long as you don't go overboard. It's best to stick with just a few bright colors to balance out the space, not five or six different colors. Too many different shades can be overwhelming.
Open floor plans - a modern kitchen design trend that has quickly gained popularity is an open floor plan. This creates a very social atmosphere, great for both entertaining and casual nights. The "social kitchen" often features a large island, which provides space for preparing and cooking food as well as a surface for eating or simply helping the kids with homework!
Stainless steel - stainless steel has prevailed as one of the top finishes in modern kitchens, and this trend probably isn't going anywhere for a while! Easy to clean, stainless steel can be used for countertops, cabinets, backsplashes and appliances (microwaves, ovens, sinks, toasters - you name it!).
Integrated appliances - those interested in modern kitchens often want their homes to match their contemporary, on-the-go lifestyle. If you don't cook a lot, drawer dishwashers (designed for smaller loads) and under-counter fridges are perfect - and they look good in modern kitchens!
Built-in Sinks - although you make not think it, kitchen sinks can be very creative. Integrated stainless steel sinks look great in modern kitchens. In fact, they can be very unique and trendy! If you have room for two sinks, you can use one to add visual interest with a unique shape.
