About The Japanese House
Housing in Japan includes modern and traditional styles. Two patterns of residence are dominant in contemporary Japan: a single-family detached homes and multiple-unit buildings, both owned by an individual or corporation and rented as apartments to tenants, or owned by the occupants. Additional types of housing, especially for unmarried people, including a boarding house (which is popular among students), dormitories (common in companies), and barracks (for members of the Self-Defense Forces, police and other public employees).
