About Hall Design Ideas
Just as the reception is the first impression giver in any office, the entrance hall has the same job in any home. It is the first place a guest sees when coming to visit you. This is where they will get a first glimpse of the actual you. This is why the impression needs to be positive and you need to make sure it is so.
The hall doesn't need to be exotic, rich or sophisticated. Any humble and modest place can offer the comfort, light and warmth that one loves to feel when entering the place. Just by adding a few touches here and there you can turn your boring entrance hall into an inviting corridor that any guest will feel welcome in.
Lighting might be the most important aspect as this is directly against the dark and boring hallways we are all accustomed to. If you have an exterior lighting, it will welcome the guest even before they stepped through the door. Having a good lighting in the hall will make the room bright and cozy, particularly in a gloomy dark winter night. If you have something particularly nice in the hall, such as a beautiful vase with fresh flowers, or the modern flooring you've just added, you can enhance this by focusing the lighting source on that particular element in the anteroom. You can have either table lamps with a soft and smooth light, or a thin floor lamp that stands behind a huge plant, for example. This can create a mix of light and shadows in the hallway that gives a very interesting effect.
The floor can be another aspect of a hallway that gives a welcoming message to any visitor. You can add decorative treatments to it by using hardwood flooring which can be enhanced with the addition of marble, terracotta tiles, or a beautiful carpet on it. It is important to have a door mat on both sides of the door to avoid dirt from being brought into the house and also to prevent any accidental slips and falls.
Depending on the size of the hallway, you can add various furniture that can enhance greatly the room. You need to have at least the minimum without adding too much furnishing that might hinder the easy walk past the hall room. You should add an umbrella receptacle, a coat hanger, a small table for placing the mail, keys and other small items, and maybe a chair if you have enough space.
You might be using a cupboard to hang your coats in, and in that case you need proper air ventilation. You want to avoid any damp clothing spread smells in the there and circulate bacteria and mold due to lack of fresh air.
