DIY Hair Accessories Idea for Android
The inspiration for this project came from Anthropologie's "Clip Zest Extra." When I saw this in the store, my first thought was "I must have this!" followed by "Eighteen bucks? No way!" culminating in "Hey that looks kind of like tissue paper pom pom Martha Stewart ..." And so, the idea for the clip DIY Anthro born.
Step 1. I first cut in eight boxes of several black chiffon I had in my stash (any cloth will do-be creative!). I use a 4 × 4 inch squares, but you can use larger if you want larger flowers. This project only works with a box (not a rectangle, parallelogram, trapezoid, etc.), but they do not have perfect squares.
Step 2. Stack boxes on top of each other and accordion fold all the way down. It's a little tricky with fabric rather than with paper towels, but it was worth it. tutorial says to make ½ inch folds, but it was with much larger piece of material. I just made my folds as small as I could while still keeping some semblance of uniformity. Just like in Step 1, it does not matter if your crease very even.
Step 3. Wrap a piece of wire around the center of the box you fold and rotate to secure.
Step 4. Cut the ends of the accordion folds to make them round or pointed, whatever your preference. You may have to go back and trim them after they were separated, because it cuts through many layers of cloth to take a little muscle.
Step 5. Separate the layers from one another and "feather" right. This step is mostly trial and error. Once you have all the layers are separated, just pull and prod at the petals until they see how you want them to see.
Step 6. To wear your hair flowers, either wrapped around the extra wire from the middle of the headband (this is easily removable as well, if you want to wear it in a different headband) or attach the alligator clip. If you want to use flowers as brooches, you can alternatively attach the pin to the back.
