Flip Flop Flower Ideas

Floral flip flops
Use new flip flops. If not, clean existing ones that are in very good condition. The flip flops need to be in good condition or decorating them won't improve them.

Choose suitable flowers. Artificial flowers can be made from cotton fabric, silk, scrap fabric, plastic, etc. Either make your own or purchase them already made.
Match the color to the flip flops. Or, choose complementary colors.
Artificial flowers are available from craft stores, florists, gift stores, online, etc.

Select a position to place the flowers. Usually the middle point where both straps meet is the ideal position, as it's the broadest part of the straps and shows off the front of your feet nicely. Larger flowers are best placed here, but you could also consider adding a row of smaller flowers down the straps for a pumped up floral look.

Use craft or fabric glue to attach the flowers. If the flowers have stems that are flexible, these might be amenable to wrapping around the straps but test to see it's comfortable first.
It's a good idea to test the glue strength before adding too many flowers. If they don't adhere well, then you'll need to choose another glue.
Allow to dry. Enjoy your refurbished flip flops.

Button flip flops
Use new or clean, good quality flip flops.

Select a variety of buttons to add to the flip flops. Choose ones in colors that match or complement the flip flops. It's a good idea to use large buttons on the middle of the flip flops where the straps meet, and place smaller buttons along the straps.

Glue the buttons in place. Larger buttons go in the middle, smaller ones can surround the larger ones and weave on down the straps.

Allow to dry before wearing.
Keep a few spares aside for buttons that get knocked off and lost. It will likely happen!

Ribbon flip flops

Use new or clean, good quality flip flops.

Choose a ribbon design. There are many ways you could add ribbons to flip flops. Here are just a few suggestions to inspire you:
Wrap ribbon around the straps in their entirety.
Wrap dual color ribbon around the straps.
Add ribbon bows, rosettes or roses.
Add ribbon butterflies.
Using silk or satin white/cream ribbon wrapped all the way around the straps but also forming an overlapping "V" shape in the middle, on which you can embroider or sew on pearls. Perfect for a wedding.

Plan where to place the ribbon. Placement will depend on which of the above ways or combination of ways to embellish the flip flops with ribbon you've chosen. You can use poster tack to design the look temporarily, then go ahead and add permanently when you're satisfied with the look.

Glue the ribbon to the flip flops. Use the straps for small ribbon embellishments and for wrapping, while the central meeting point of the straps can be used for larger ribbon features, such as a ribbon bow or butterfly.

Depending on the ribbon's makeup, these may not be ideal when wet. Bear that in mind when choosing the type of ribbon.
