A rose is one of the most beautiful flowers and often the subjects of drawing for artists. One may however, find it quite complicated to draw a Rose on paper. This article aims to simplify the drawings. The ensuing discussion offers you two different methods for drawing a Rose. One method guides you on drawing the side view of Rose, while the other one helps you with its top view.
Roses occur in several Colors. Similarly, we have a variety of Petal shapes also. We shall come to Rose Petals and Colors a little later. Let us first focus on the Pencil Drawing of Rose on a Gray Scale. Once you get the idea of shadows and highlights of the flower, it will be easy to fill Colors in your Rose drawing. Just take care to keep your Pencil Strokes as light as possible. This way it would be a lot easier to erase the erroneous shapes, without leaving any marks.
Method 1 - Drawing the Side View of Rose.
O Rose Swirl. Draw an Oval shape at the center of a paper, making a Swirl of the Rose. This would be the upper part of Rose.
O Rose Body. Now draw a bigger Oval at a slight distance, just below the upper one. This would be the Body of Rose.
O Rose Stem. From the Central Base of this bigger Oval, draw a downward going pair of Vertical Lines, slightly curved and entwined, to impart the Stem of Rose like appearance. Thicken one side of the Stem and darken it to impart a 3D look.
O Rose Framework. Now join the two Ovals from outer sides, with two Vertically Parallel, yet Curved Lines, to get a cup shaped look. This gives a basic Rose structure.
O Leaves. Draw 2 slightly pointed Ovals on each side of Stem to make the Leaves of Rose. Draw a Straight Line (Midrib) in the Center of Leaves. Now draw a Dentate or Toothed Outer Line for Leaves. Shade the Leaves slightly at their Base.
O Petals. Join the left edge of the cup shaped part of the bottom center, with the help of a Curved Line. Join the right edge of cup shape to the Neck part of Rose. Now draw an Oval shaped coil inside the first Oval. Add some more Petals in this way. Slightly shade the shadowed part of Rose Petals and draw Petals border with a thick line.
O Sepals. Draw small, lens shaped Ovals at the joining of the Rose Base and Stem. These are Sepals.
O Thorns. Now draw pointed, Thorn like shapes on Stem, one on each side of it.
