The task of the design team is usually divided into three main aspects: exterior design, interior design, and color and trim design. Graphic design is also an aspect of automotive design, it is generally shared amongst the design team as the lead designer sees fit. The design not only focuses on isolated outer forms of automobile parts, but concentrates on a combination of shapes and functions, ranging from vehicle packages.
The aesthetic value should match the ergonomic function and utility features as well. In particular, electronic components and vehicle parts will provide more challenges for automotive designers needed to update the latest information and knowledge related to the emergence of vehicle gadgets, especially mobile dashtop devices, such as GPS navigation, satellite radio, HD radio, mobile TV, MP3 Player, video playback and smartphone interface. While not all new vehicle gadgets will be designated as standard factory items, some of them may become an integral part determining the future direction of each particular vehicle model.
Exterior Design The stylist responsible for the vehicle's exterior design develops the proportion, shape, and surface of the vehicle. The first exterior design is done by a series of digital or manual images. The more detailed images are executed and approved. Clay (industrial plastisin) and or digital model developed from, and along with the drawings. Data from this model is then used to create a full mock-up size of the final design (white body). With 3 and 5 axes CNC Milling Machines, the first clay model was designed in a computer program and then "carved" using a machine and a large amount of clay. Even when high-class 3d software and virtual models on powerwalls clay models are still the most important tool for evaluating car designs and are therefore used throughout the industry.
