Beautiful Flower Arrangements

Flowers can bring life and brighten up a room. They add elegance and beauty to the home. They are also a way of conveying and adding impact to a message with certain kinds of flowers and flower arrangements being specific to certain occasions ranging from weddings and funerals. Flowers come in different shapes and sizes, colours and texture. All these are important to keep in mind when arranging flowers. There are many different techniques that one can use in flower arrangement and in fact, flower arrangement is really an art. In the following paragraphs is an example of a technique you can use to arrange flowers in a vase. You will need a cutting tool such as a pair of scissors or a knife.

First, select flowers whose colours complement each other. You can use different varieties of flowers with different shades of the same color. You can further make your flower arrangement distinct be using different flower sizes and even shapes. Next thing you do is identify the greenery you will use in the arrangement. This can be big or small leaves that compliment your collection of flowers. An example of such greenery is leaves from ferns. Put the green next to the flowers to see if they go well together. To make the design more interesting you can use perennials that are not in season at the time you are doing the flower arrangement.

You then identify the vase that you would like to use for the floral arrangement. Smaller vases flatter small stemmed flowers while long slender vases do the same for long stemmed flowers. You can either buy the vase or make your own using items such as your unused plastic containers or baskets. Whatever container you use must have the ability to hold water and this thus means if you use a basket, you may have to cover it's inside with a less porous lining.

Before you place the flowers into the vase, trim the end of the stems by about an inch. Cutting facilitates a much higher rate of water absorption. Remove any leaves from the stems that will lie below the water line once the flowers are in the container. This is because the leaves quickly rot when exposed to water and will end up making the vase emit a pungent smell. Removing the leaves means your flowers will stay fresher longer. If you are using flowers with thorns such as roses cut the thorns out carefully with the scissors or the knife.

Start the arrangement with the larger flowers by putting the largest ones at the centre. Follow this arrangement such that the smallest flowers come at the periphery of the vase. If the difference in height or size of the flowers is very large, consider trimming and cutting the flowers and stems so that the difference in height across the final arrangement is not steep but rather gradual. Finally, sprinkle the greenery to fill in the gaps between the flowers.
