BEAM: Virgin Trains TV & Films for Android
Doesn't work. Advert on train says you don't need wifi for it. The app says it won't work without
As many others, can't get it to work, connected to WiFi on both my IOS tablet and android phone and tried app on both but still tells me to connect to WiFi and try again. Disappointing and useless in current form
WiFi is up and down like Fred West's patio. It's better to just enjoy the view out the window - even if you're in a tunnel.
You do not need a WiFi code as others have suggested just make sure you turn off your mobile data when you connect to the virgin WiFi, you do not even need to sign in, just load it up and it will connect regardless
This worked well on my previous phone but on my current one it simply says "please connect to wifi" (obviously I am already connected) and gets no further. Resetting doesn't fix it... no guidance to be found.
Doesn't work. Tells me I'm not on the train when I am. Tells me I need to connect to WiFi when I am connected. Delete. Virgin trains WiFi no good either BTW.
There is basically nothing on it at the moment. There are no films and only one tv programme. Used to have loads - don't know what happened. Pointless now
Garbage...downloaded 45 mb app in secs on 4g through tunnels from London. Can i connect? V v v poor
Misleading, app maybe free, but you need WiFi, which you have to pay for!!!
If you think you can watch free films on Virgin trains you are badly mistaken. 43 Mb of time wasting.
Won't let you continue watching after the journey, so if you don't finish watching you're left hanging.
Great app! Downloaded it on the platform, then watched a film on my way to London. No buffering, no issues.
A load of rubbish! Virgin this app is RUBBISH AND YOUR ADVERT DATA IS HALF BAKED!
doesnt connect despite being on the virgin wifi, just gives a host not found error
Rubbish. Downloaded the latest app but says there is no license key. Really?
Load of tosh. Now saying my key isnt up to date and to check the faq. Checjed the faq and no information on an oytdated key. De-installed. Waste of airtime and anither expmple of very poor virgin service at least it matches the rest.
Wi-Fi on train is too weak to download app or play videos
Used this three times now on the East Coast service and has always worked fine... Remember, you need a WiFi code to use this app (which is free in standard class if you book thru virgin). I did have issues with the actual WiFi, but appending the login to the nearest / got me to the login page. Bear in mind, moaning about the WiFi is not really fair to the app. It is well designed and even remembered where I left off a movie on a later journey! Film selection is not too bad
Works okay, provided the WiFi is up properly. Given that this just has to be local (to the train) I was surprised a few times that it got a little flakey but it was never unusable during a 2½ hour journey. The magazines are good on proviso principle but the UI was a bit sub-optimal when going back and forth between pages. Movies the definite strong point.
Broken. Complete waste of time. I could not get the beam app on android to connect to the service. WiFi was active, and i clicked the beam link on the WiFi landing page. Then nothing. Went back to beam app, tried to connect. "Please connect to wi-fi". What a total joke. Virgin, don't advertise this trash until you've tested it.
A good idea and a nice little app, worked great on one journey when I was sat in first class, then on the way back in standard class I encountered the classic "you need a key to watch this film" problem and nothing worked! Very much depends on the WiFi speed I suspect (and of course, it's usually better in first class!)
The app isn't bad but the 30 mins into a programme the streaming started to judder (WiFi?) London to Manchester..Pendalino. . Bit irritating. Shame really. If the WiFi were better I'd be giving it 4*
I find it ridiculous that you have to download this over your mobile data rather than the onboard Wi-fi, but other than that, the app is quite usable and I have faced no bugs (apart from the ugly design). Once I connected to the onboard Wi-fi, I opened the app and was surprised to find a large number of fairly recent movies that I could watch. However, I was greatly disappointed that the movies are not streamed in 1080p (even 720p would do) since the quality was noticeably terrible.
I can't be bothered reporting the connection problems to either train managers or developers on here as they're still unresolved. What gives Virgin Trains? That's poor customer service! Save to say, if it says you're not connected to the Internet in order for the app to work, then over ride that and click on connect anyway on your device and it should work. That took seven months of time wasting whilst travelling with Virgin and trying to use this app. So much so I don't even think about using it now! A waste of time and energy. But if you've got nothing else to do....
Brilliant. Watched Spectre with no buffering and a perfect stream. But then again, I have an octacore processor in my Moto G4plus. If you use an inferior "fruit" product well .....
Well it used to work but now the app finds the WiFi and shows a menu, but apart from "reads" every category is empty. Still, unless it's dark it's entertainment enough looking out of the window.
Edit: still broken, March 2017. Garbage. It keeps telling me that the video didn't load and to check my Internet connexion. A good idea, like on - board WiFi, but equally rubbish in its execution. Sorry Virgin: get it working and then roll it out.
Such a brilliant idea, woefully realised. I mean, I realise that travelling the barron wastes of Birmingham to Watford, what with its lack of population and undeveloped industry means network is rare, but come on. If you advertise wifi on your train, provide it before spending all this cash on movie licenses.
You can't put "Film & TV" in the title when I doesn't even offer that. The only 2 options I have are reading material and bad games.... false advertising
Absolute waste of time. Can't sign in therefore can't do anything. Virgin wifi pathetic. 15 minutes of my life I will never get back
It's a great idea... But it doesn't work. At all. The onboard WiFi isn't even good enough to support a locally streaming service. Poo.
It's good when it works. the problem, however, is it won't always allow your phone to connect to the internet on their Wi-Fi.
Joke of a service. Despite signs on every seat saying you don't need the WiFi Internet service to run this, it just doesn't connect. Waste of time, fkn muppets.
Very Good!! Very useful when bored on the train. Movies definitely the best. But can't you use it with any WIFI it's really annoying you need to be on a train to use it. But overall really good!!
Suffers from a bad case of doesn't-work-at-all. Simply won't recognise that it is connected to the WiFi.
Movies and TV didn't work at all, leaving only magazines. Nice idea, terrible execution - if you make a big song and dance about something, you need to ensure it works!
Pointless unless you buy a WiFi code, false advertisement in my opinion. Films might be free but the WiFi isn't.
Despite the sticker in front of me says I can connect to the WiFi and, without logging in, head to the Play store and download this app, i had to download it over 4G as i could not reach the Play store over WiFi. Get your info straight.
Not yet available on East Coast, yet I got the advertising email. Not impressed at all, hopefully it'll change in the near future.

Waste of time. Connected to the train wifi and it keeps asking to connect and never leaves the first screen.
