About AvoiDeer
The difference between the Avoideer app and existing animal warning signs is that the Avoideer warns about a real sighting by an alert on the map and optional notifications in real time.
When you register a sighting of an animal other drivers using Avoideer can take precautions to avoid a collision. Your report will be uploaded with the GPS position and the observation will be pushed out to other users. When a new sighting is reported Push Notifications can alert users in the general area.
In USA, approximately 1.22 million collisions caused by the presence of deer each year. In Norway, approximately 1300 moose is killed in collisions each year. Colliding with these animals is potentially fatal for passengers and is likely to cause significant damage to your car and the animal.
Avoideer vs traffic signs. The danger of colliding with an animal is reduced if you,as a driver, watch the traffic warning signs, drive at a safe speed and observe your surroundings.
REAL TIME ALERTS: Real time alerts will be available on the Android version of this app via an update in January. We have almost finished testing this exciting new function. Watch for the update message!
WARNING: You should not attempt to use this app whilst driving. Please allow a passenger to make reports, or pull over to a safe position before reporting. Absence of reports on this app does not mean that the road is clear, we are providing additional warnings that animals have been seen recently. Always drive with care.
IMPORTANT: Continued use of GPS in the background can significantly reduce battery life. We use only a low powered "major location change" tracking system to reduce this consumption.
