About Tales from Old Japan - English version
This app contains folk tales and children's stories from Japan, some are written by Iwaya Sazanami, with illustration from Kakuzo Fujiyama and translated by Yei Theodora Ozaki.
The twenty-two stories contained in this volume include one of the best-known Japanese tales, The Tongue-Cut Sparrow, The Ogre of Rashomon, Adventures of Kintaro the Golden Boy.

It has been rendered into English by Yei Theodora Ozaki that it gives the meaning of Japanese words and terms and explains many of the customs for the benefit of non-Japanese readers. In the preface she states that her aim is to bring these beautiful tales to those outside her country so that they may love and enjoy them too.

Thank you for such a wonderful apps! I've been wanting to read a book like this, but find it none except for wikipedias. Somehow (just-) Japanese tales are so hard to find, unlike a book dedicated for Norse or Greek or Egyptians myth. There sure be a lot more to improve on the UI/UX, but as a book-apps, it's good enough :)

App looks great but ads completely ruin the experience and not only take away from the beautiful design but are incredibly distracting. Would he have gladly paid for an ad free version but can't find the option anywhere so I assume there isn't one.

I would call it a copy of Yei Theodora Ozaki's work. However, this app gives us better experience (because of its illustrations) than Ozaki's book does and apart from the content, everything else is fine. It doesn't lag, It shows few, very few ads. All n all, it deserves a 5 star. I wish it reaches 1 million downloads in the upcoming days.
