About Run On
Run On is a free app for notifying you of incoming text messages by reading them out. Any time you're unable to use your device (running, driving, etc), Run On can read incoming messages via text-to-speech.
Features:
☆ Run policies, such as reading messages out only when headphones or Bluetooth is used
☆ Announcements can include sender's contact name or number
☆ Optionally read the entire text message, or just the sender
☆ Simple and lightweight UI
☆ Nothing runs in the background, except when reading your messages out!
Permissions:
☆ RECEIVE_SMS: used to receive SMS text messages from system, they are never stored or shared
☆ READ_CONTACTS: used to announce sender's contact name instead of phone number only
☆ MODIFY_AUDIO_SETTINGS: used to check for presence of wired / A2DP headset, muting notifications and pausing music while speaking

Gonna share this on Facebook & Twitter. This is exactly what I've been looking for. It reads out texts when connected via Bluetooth, and doesn't when not connected via Bluetooth. No fancy bells or whistles - it just does the job!

Excellent app works really well, I've it set to read messages when running with earphones in and when driving through a Bluetooth cat kit. Thanks (would be great if it could work with other popular messaging apps)

This does exactly what I wanted - read my sms through bluetooth headset. I had a small problem at first, but I emailed the developer and he fixed it very quickly. I've tried other apps like this, but kept coming back. Works perfectly.

Would be better if a prompt appeared when attaching the headphones.. Say in the notification bar.. For instantly enabling the app to speak messages when headphones are connected...

Latest update really improve performance. Messages are read through Bluetooth only this app is a must have.

I use this "reading text app"everyday when i am working out in the gym or walking my dog.. A very helpful app..

Works as advertised. Great for running or rainy days (when you don't want to get your phone wet). Also thanks dev for explaining the permissions.

I wanted this so that I could still receive text messages whilst riding my bike. It does indeed read out the text messages but the stop and restart of various audio applications that are running in the background is not great. For example, if I'm listening to an audio book (Using the Audible app) then it pauses the book and never restarts it. This means I need to pull over, remove my gloves and fumble round with the phone every time a text message arrives (thus defeating the point of the application) At the same time, it also launches the standard "Play Music" app (Which I rarely use) No idea why it's doing this. Fix these problems and it'd be an easy five stars. Would happily pay for an app that fully works in this fashion. (Nexus 4 - Jellybean)

This app works perfect! I stream Google music on my bike rides and this quiets the music, reads my texts, then resumes play. This app had become a godsend for my Bluetooth and I! Can't thank you enough!
