A Lei consolidada tem seu texto escrito com as duas redações (a primeira vez como foi criada e logo abaixo com o novo texto), sendo que a frase que foi alterada é identificada com o texto tachado, ou seja, com um risco em cima do texto original. Já a Lei Compilada é quando a lei é apresentada somente com as novas redações, ou seja, com o texto que está em vigor.
