Nas águas do movimento espiritual conhecido como “avivamento de Gales”, nos anos de 1903 e 1904, foram organizadas no reino unido a igreja pentecostal Elim e a igreja assembleia de Deus nas ilhas Britânicas. Um dos líderes do avivamento, transferindo-se para Londres, alugou, no centro da cidade, o templo da igreja congregacional que estava desocupado, organizando assim a renomada “Elim Chapel”. igreja Peniel Chapel foi fundada em Londres como fruto deste avivamento espiritual na Inglaterra. Essa igreja recebeu uma vocação especial para missões mundiais, o que levou o pastor Benjamin Griffes a organizar a “sociedade missionária Peniel Chapel”.
