Tudo começou com o bom baiano Gustavo Teixeira, sempre irrequieto e empreendedor, que pensou que, tal qual outras sociedades já existentes, como a do Pé e Mão, o Quadril também deveria tentar agrupar médicos para estudar, desenvolver e divulgar os conhecimentos dessa articulação. Assim, Teixeira, tendo como presidente de honra Márcio Ibraim de Carvalho, uma das figuras mais marcantes da Sociedade Brasileira de Ortopedia e Traumatologia, organizou e presidiu o primeiro Congresso Brasileiro do Quadril, ocorrido na cidade de Salvador, em 1981, no Hotel Meridien.

Com a participação do Dr. Eduardo Salvati, do Hospital for Special Surgery, de Nova York, como convidado especial, o evento foi um sucesso, contando com a participação expressiva de aproximadamente 200 ortopedistas. Posteriormente, em 1982, no Congresso Brasileiro de Ortopedia e Traumatologia, também em Salvador, na Bahia, em uma reunião que havia sido previamente marcada no programa oficial do Congresso, o mesmo grupo de médicos envolvido com a realização do primeiro grande evento de quadril, recebeu a incumbência de organizar o II Congresso Brasileiro do Quadril, em São Paulo, no ano de 1984, e também de elaborar o estatuto da nova Sociedade do Quadril que seria criada.

Naquele mesmo ano de 1982 foi formada a diretoria que organizaria o II Congresso do Quadril, assim constituída: Sérgio Rudelli – presidente, Emílio Noel Cordeiro – vice-presidente, Luiz Alves Ferreira – secretário, Emerson Honda – tesoureiro e José Carlos Affonso Ferreira – diretor científico.

Esse grupo redigiu ainda o primeiro estatuto da Sociedade Brasileira do Quadril. Nesse período, a diretoria da Sociedade Brasileira de Ortopedia e Traumatologia, assim como muitos membros da entidade, temia pelo crescente aumento de sociedades de especialidades e totalmente independentes da sociedade maior, a SBOT. Por isso, decidiu-se mudar o nome da Sociedade Brasileira do Quadril para Comitê do Quadril, com uma diretoria totalmente independente quanto às suas atividades científicas e burocráticas, mas que poderia ser questionada ou mesmo dissolvida diante de fatos considerados graves pela tão somente convocação da Assembleia Geral. A SBOT não perderia a sua supremacia de sociedade-mãe e teria, para evitar possíveis abusos principalmente quanto à continuidade de alguns membros em postos de mando, o controle do Comitê através da mais democrática das suas reuniões, que era e continua sendo a sua Assembleia Geral. This group also wrote the first statute of the Brazilian Society of Hip. During this period, the board of the Brazilian Society of Orthopedics and Traumatology, as well as many members of the organization, feared by the increasing number of specialty societies and totally independent of the larger society, SBOT. Therefore, it was decided to change the name of the Brazilian Society of Hip to Hip Committee, with a completely independent directors as to their scientific and bureaucratic activities, but it could be questioned or even dissolved in the face of facts considered serious by solely convening of General meeting. SBOT not lose its supremacy of the parent company and had to avoid possible abuses especially regarding the continuity of some members in executive posts, control of the Committee through the most democratic of its meetings, which was and remains its Assembly General.
