كان أيوب عليه السلام.. صاحب مال وجاه وزوجات وأولاد، وكان رجلاً قد رفع الله قدره فجعله نبياً.
في لحظة من ليل أو نهار فقد أهله وولده وماله ولم يبق معه إلا زوجة واحدة، ثم ازداد عليه البلاء فأصابه مرض عضال تعجب منه قومه وخافوا من عدوى مرضه فأخرجوه من بينهم.

فعاش في خيمة في الصحراء قد هدّه المرض وتقرّح جسده وعظم ضُرُّه وتركه الناس فلم يقربوه.
أما مرضه فقد سُئل المفسر مجاهد رحمه الله فقيل له: ما المرض الذي أصاب أيوب أهو الجدري ؟
فقال: لا.. بل أعظم من الجدري.. كان يخرج في جسده كمثل ثدي المرأة.. ثم ينفقئ فيخرج منه القيح والصديد الكثير..

وطالت سنين المرض بأيوب عليه السلام وهو جبل صامد..
وفي يوم هادئ بكت زوجته عند رأسه فسألها: ما يبكيك ؟
قالت: تذكرت ما كنا فيه من عز وعيش ثم نظرت إلى حالنا اليوم فبكيت..

فقال لها: أتذكرين العز الذي كنا فيه.. كم تمتعنا فيه من السنين ؟
قالت: سبعين سنة. فقال: فكم مضى علينا في هذا البلاء ؟
قالت: سبع سنين.. فقال: فاصبري حتى نكون في البلاء سبعين سنة.. كما تمتعنا في الرخاء سبعين ثم اجزعي بعد لك أو دعي..

ومر عليه الزمان.. وهو يتقلب على فراش المرض لكنه كان بطلاً..
نعم لو مررت به وهو مريض ولحم جسده يتساقط لرأيت أنك تمر بجبل صامد لا تزعزعه الأعاصير ولا تحركه الرياح..

لسان ذاكر، وقلب شاكر، وجسد صابر، وعين باكية، ودعوة ماضية.. لم يفرح الشيطان منه بجزع..
وفي ساعة من نهار مر قريباً منه رجلان فلما رأيا ضره ومرضه قال أحدهما للآخر: ما أظن الله ابتلى أيوب إلا بمعصية لا نعلمها.. عندها رفع أيوب عليه السلام يده و.. ( نَادَى رَبَّهُ أَنِّي مَسَّنِيَ الضُّرُّ وَأَنتَ أَرْحَمُ الرَّاحِمِينَ )..

عندها هزت دعواته أبواب السماء فقال الله: ( فاستجبنا له وكشفنا ما به من ضر وآتيناه أهله ومثلهم معهم رحمة من عندنا وذكرى للعابدين )..
وأثنى الله عليه فقال: ( إِنَّا وَجَدْنَاهُ صَابِراً نِعْمَ الْعَبْدُ إِنَّهُ أَوَّابٌ )..
وما أجمل أن ينظر الله إليك وأنت في مرضك.. فيراك صابراً محتسباً فترتفع إلى درجة ( نعم العبد )..

ورد اسم نبي الله أيوب في أربعة مواضع في القرآن الكريم ، و قد ضرب الله به المثل بالصبر ، فقد امتحنه الله تعالى في بدنه و أهله و ماله إلا انه صبر في ذلك كله صبراً جميلاً ، فوهب الله بذلك العافية و الأهل و المال و أثنى عليه ثناءً كبيراً جاء في قصة نبي الله تعالى أيوب عليه السلام أن إبليس قد تمثل له بصفة رجل حكيم و أراد فتنته و تشكيكه في عبادة ربه ، و أنه لم يرعه حق الرعاية في مرضه و تفرق أهله عنه و فقدانه لماله ، فاستعبر و بكى قائلاً : الله أعطى و الله أخذ فله الحمد معطياً و سالباً ، راضياً و ساخطاً ، نافعاً و ضاراً ، و خر بعد كلامه هذا لله ساجداً و ترك إبليس يتميز من غيظه ظل ايوب عليه السلام سقيماً و مريضاً لمدة تزيد عن السبعة أعوام ، رغم أن مرضه كان مرضاً جلدياً و ليس من الأمراض المنفرة ، لأن ذلك لا يتفق مع منصب النبوة ، و استحى أيوب عليه السلام من أن يطلب من ربه تفريج كربه و رفع البلاء عنه ، و لما اشتدت آلامه و تضاعفت أسقامه فزع إلى ربه داعياً ممتحناً قائلاً : يا رب إني مسني الضر و أنت أرحم الراحمين استجاب الله دعاءه و أوحى إليه أن احفر برجلك فينفجر لك نبع من الماء فاغتسل به و اشرب منه ، فستعود إليك صحتك و ترد إليك قوتك ، ففعل ، فعافاه الله و برئت جروحه و عاد صحيحاً معافى صحيح الجسم قوي البدن لازمته زوجته في بداية مرضه ثم سئمت من ذلك و تركته ثم رجعت إليه ، فرأته غض الإهاب و اباً نضراً ، فأنكرته بادي الرأي و لم تعرفه حتى عانقته و حمدت الله لما رد إليه من عافية و صحة ، و قد جاء ذلك في الآيات التالية من سورة الأنبياء وَأَيُّوبَ إِذْ نَادَى رَبَّهُ أَنِّي مَسَّنِيَ الضُّرُّ وَأَنتَ أَرْحَمُ الرَّاحِمِينَ (83) فَاسْتَجَبْنَا لَهُ فَكَشَفْنَا مَا بِهِ مِن ضُرٍّ وَآتَيْنَاهُ أَهْلَهُ وَمِثْلَهُم مَّعَهُمْ رَحْمَةً مِّنْ عِندِنَا وَذِكْرَى لِلْعَابِدِينَ (84) و قد جازى الله عبده أيوب بأن رد عليه عافيته و أهله و ما له لما رأه عليه من صبر و شكر و حمد ، و قد جاء ذلك في الآيات التالية من سورة ص وَاذْكُرْ عَبْدَنَا أَيُّوبَ إِذْ نَادَى رَبَّهُ أَنِّي مَسَّنِيَ الشَّيْطَانُ بِنُصْبٍ وَعَذَابٍ (41) ارْكُضْ بِرِجْلِكَ هَذَا مُغْتَسَلٌ بَارِدٌ وَشَرَابٌ (42) وَوَهَبْنَا لَهُ أَهْلَهُ وَمِثْلَهُمْ مَعَهُمْ رَحْمَةً مِنَّا وَذِكْرَى لِأُولِي الْأَلْبَابِ (43) وَخُذْ بِيَدِكَ ضِغْثًا فَاضْرِبْ بِهِ وَلَا تَحْنَثْ إِنَّا وَجَدْنَاهُ صَابِرًا نِعْمَ الْعَبْدُ إِنَّهُ أَوَّابٌ (44)
