Biblioteca Municipal Alpiarça

A Biblioteca Municipal de Alpiarça (BMA), inaugurada em 1989, funcionou provisoriamente no 1º piso do antigo edifício dos Paços do Concelho até 2007. Um belo edifício, mas com múltiplos problemas de acessibilidade e funcionalidade. Só passadas quase duas décadas, em 2007, é que se deu a transição para este novo espaço: moderno e funcional, com boas acessibilidades e estrategicamente inserido no tecido urbano da vila. Recebeu então a denominação de Biblioteca Municipal de Alpiarça, Dr. Hermínio Duarte Paciência, em honra deste ilustre alpiarcense. Passou a integrar a Rede Nacional de Bibliotecas Públicas em 2001, altura em que foi assinado o contrato-programa com a DGLB. Como serve uma população com cerca de 8.500 habitantes, a sua edificação baseou-se no Programa Tipo B.M.1.

Ao passarmos pela rua contígua à Biblioteca não ficamos indiferentes ao conjunto arquitetónico. O edifício, com uma área útil de 900m2, tem uma imagem exterior extremamente sugestiva e apelativa à sua utilização. No seu interior reencontramos estes atributos, convidando a uma utilização dinâmica e interactiva dos espaços e serviços disponíveis por parte dos utilizadores inscritos. Como é característico nas bibliotecas públicas foi dada especial ênfase ao livre acesso, o que exige uma fácil leitura dos espaços e isso é notório e, simultaneamente, revelador dos cuidados tidos na sua conceção. Em termos funcionais, está dividida nos dois circuitos tradicionais: o circuito do documento e o circuito do utilizador. A estes dois circuitos correspondem duas grandes ordens de serviços: os serviços internos e os serviços públicos. O átrio aparece como o elemento distribuidor, ligando-se através dele as salas de leitura infantil/juvenil e de adultos, o bar, o auditório e os serviços internos. Ambas as salas de leitura são amplas, respetivamente com 134 m2 e 238 m2, mostrando-se bastantes funcionais apesar do modo peculiar de distribuição do mobiliário, algo labiríntica. Nos serviços internos encontramos as salas de tratamento documental, de manutenção, de reuniões e o gabinete do bibliotecário. Todas estas salas de trabalho são amplas, funcionais e têm uma boa iluminação natural. Finalmente, o depósito de documentos, equipado com estantes móveis, que perfazem trezentos e quarenta metros lineares, quase tanto como as que estão em livre acesso, trezentos e oitenta metros.

Procura dar-se, assim, à população deste Município as melhores condições em termos espaciais e funcionais para o pleno usufruto de um ambiente onde todos possam contatar com novas ideias, realidades e pensamentos, essenciais na obtenção da plena cidadania, tendo o livro e a leitura, no seu suporte tradicional, uma forte presença na colecção, para todos os escalões etários. No entanto, atualmente, sente-se uma forte tendência para a utilização das novas tecnologias de informação e comunicação (TIC), como a Internet, recursos multimédia e audiovisuais.

Que a biblioteca seja também um local de convívio onde os cidadãos possam partilhar e divulgar os seus conhecimentos e onde, simultaneamente, possam usufruir das novas tecnologias e das novas formas de comunicar, como é exemplo a Internet, facilitando a aprendizagem ao longo da vida e promovendo a inclusão digital. As is characteristic in public libraries special emphasis was given to free access, which requires an easy reading of spaces and it is notorious, while simultaneously revealing the care taken in its design. In functional terms, it is divided into two traditional circuits: the document in the circuit and the user circuit. To these two circuits correspond two major orders of services: internal services and public services. The lobby appears as the distributor element, connecting it through the rooms of children's reading / youth and adults, bar, auditorium and internal services. Both reading rooms are spacious, with respectively 134 m2 and 238 m2, being quite functional despite the peculiar mode of distribution of furniture, something labyrinthine. In-house service found the documentary treatment rooms, maintenance, meetings and the librarian's office. All these work rooms are spacious, functional and have good natural lighting. Finally, the deposit of documents, equipped with movable shelves, totaling three hundred and forty linear meters, almost as much as those in free access, three hundred eighty meters.
 
Seeks to give, so the people of this municipality the best conditions in spatial and functional terms for the full enjoyment of an environment where everyone can contact with new ideas, realities and thoughts, essential in achieving full citizenship, and the book and reading in its traditional support, a strong presence in the collection, for all ages. However, at present, feels a strong trend towards the use of new information and communication technologies (ICTs) such as the Internet, multimedia and audiovisual resources.
 
The library is also a convivial place where people can share and disseminate their knowledge and where both can take advantage of new technologies and new ways of communicating, as exemplified by the Internet, facilitating learning lifelong and promoting digital inclusion.
