Voices Heard Podcasts

Voices Heard is an app for finding and downloading podcasts. Find podcasts with the search feature and then track them with automatic downloading! You can also "Star" episodes for later listening and browse the Podcast's archives for descriptions.

An external media player is required to play podcast episodes. I recommend VLC Media player or the player built into ES File Explorer, which is a wonderful app on its own.

If you experience errors, make sure the app has the Filesystem Access permission by going to your phone's settings app, Apps->Voices Heard Podcasts->Permissions. If this screen does not exist, you are on a different version of android and I would be very happy if you sent me a bug report.

To add a podcast:
Method 1:
Tap the "+" button at the bottom of the main screen. Type your search into the Podcast Title field and tap the magnifying glass. In the screen that comes up, pick the correct podcast or hit back to adjust your search. Wait for the details to be automatically filled and then click save. This search feature is powered by the Google News api.

Method 2:
Navigate to the podcast's RSS feed with any android browser and use the share feature to add it to Voices Heard.

Method 3:
Enter the details manually. Include http:// or https:// in the feed url section. Be careful, as errors will cause this to simply not work.

The Main Screen:
Any podcasts you have added will have their own section on the Voices Heard main screen. Tap the title to expand or collapse the podcast's controls. The Trash Can button will delete the podcast. The Archive button will show the podcast's archive. The + and - buttons will change how many episodes will be kept locally. If you make that number negative, say -3, the oldest three episodes will be downloaded instead of the newest 3.

The Settings Screen:
Tap the three dots in the upper right corner of the main screen to reach the settings screen. Here you can change the theme colors of the app, the time of the automatic downloads, the way podcasts are sorted on the main screen and the way the episodes are titled.

The Periodic Downloads Screen:
Set the time you'd like periodic downloads to occur and tap SAVE to save that setting. To cancel the Periodic downloads, tap cancel. To leave this screen, use your device's back button.

The Archive Screen:
This will show the feed for the given podcast. Tap the Play button for any episode to play the local file if it exists, or stream it otherwise.
