About SCO
The Students’ Christian Organization (SCO) in South Africa is deeply hurt and joins hands with other Christians and international community at large to call upon the release of schools girls held in captivity by Boko Haram in Nigeria, we call upon the kidnapers to release our fellow students unharmed. We as a student community appreciate the means and efforts embarked upon by various bodies to resolve the challenge. We are praying to God for a successful return of these fellow students to be reunited with their families.
We are also greatly aggrieved and shocked by the latest ruling in Khartoum by Sudan Court against Mariam Yahya Ibrahim Ishag who was ordered by Sudan Court to abandon her adopted Christian faith and return to Islam. Mariam Yahya Ibrahim Ishag was charged with adultery for marrying a Christian man and sentenced to death by Sudan authorities for refusing to renounce her Christianity. The court in Khartoum also ordered Ibrahim to be given 100 lashes for committing "zena" - an Arabic word for illegitimate sex - for having sexual relations with a non-Muslim man.
We note and appreciate the initiative by SUCA our sister organization mobilizing a picket in front of Sudan embassy next week and demand the release of Mariam Yahya Ibrahim Ishag, we are in support of such noble initiatives
