SOBRE A NOVA VERSÃO INTERNACIONAL ( NVI )

Essa tradução foi feita a partir das línguas em que os textos bíblicos foram originalmente escritos (hebraico, aramaico e grego). A NVI foi produzida com os seguintes objetivos fundamentais:

Clareza — o texto foi traduzido de forma que pudesse ser lido pela população em geral sem maiores dificuldades, porém sem ser demasiadamente informal. Arcaísmos, por exemplo, foram banidos, e regionalismos, evitados.

Fidelidade — a tradução deve ser fiel ao significado pretendido pelos autores originais.

Beleza de estilo — o resultado deve permitir uma leitura agradável, e uma boa sonoridade ao ser falado em público.
O projeto de tradução para a língua portuguesa começou em 1990, com a reunião da comissão da Sociedade Bíblica Internacional, sob coordenação do lingüista e hebraista, Rev. Luiz Sayão. Inicialmente foi publicado uma versão do Novo Testamento, em 1991. O projeto foi totalmente patrocinado pela International Bible Society, ainda que difundida e vendida por outras editoras. A editora Zondervan, tradicional casa publicadora de linha reformada norte-americana de origem holandesa, conhecida publicadora de Bíblias por décadas, como a King James Version, a Berkeley Version, a Amplified Bible e a NIV, teve participação divulgação e distribuição da NVI, ainda que não em sua elaboração.

A tradução definitiva e completa em português foi publicada em 2000, a partir das línguas originais, com base na mesma filosofia tradutológica da New International Version (NIV).
Os membros da comissão de tradução foram, conforme o livro NVI: a Bíblia do Século 21, publicado por Sociedade Bíblica Internacional e Editora Vida:

A NVI tem um perfil Protestante, e procura não favorecer nenhuma denominação em particular. É teologicamente equilibrada e procura usar a linguagem do português atual. O processo de tradução da NVI contou com a participação de renomados estudiosos protestantes como Russell Shedd, Estevan Kirschner, Luiz Sayão, Carlos Osvaldo Pinto e Randall Cook (arqueólogo em Israel).

Apesar das semelhanças entre a Nova Versão Internacional e a New International Version, a versão brasileira não é uma tradução da língua inglesa, mas sim dos idiomas originais.
Notas de rodapé são freqüentes na NVI. Elas trazem explicações de todo tipo e em alguns casos apresentam traduções alternativas (inclusive qual seria a tradução literal).

Pacto de Lausanne

Todos os tradutores da NVI são aderentes ao Pacto de Lausanne:
"Afirmo a divina inspiração, fidelidade e autoridade de todas as Escrituras do Antigo e do Novo Testamento como a única Palavra escrita de Deus, sem erro em tudo o que afirma, sendo a regra infalível de fé e prática."

ON THE NEW INTERNATIONAL VERSION (NIV)

This translation was made from the languages ​​in which the Scriptures were originally written (Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek). The NIV was produced with the following key objectives:

Clarity - the text was translated so that it could be read by the general population without difficulty, but without being too informal. Archaic, for example, have been banned and regionalisms avoided.

Loyalty - the translation must be faithful to the meaning intended by the original authors.

style beauty - the result should enable an enjoyable read, and a good sound to be spoken in public.
The translation project into Portuguese began in 1990 with the meeting of the committee of the International Bible Society, coordinated by the linguist and Hebraist, Rev. Luiz Sayão. Initially a version of the New Testament was published in 1991. The project was fully sponsored by the International Bible Society, although widespread and sold by other publishers. The Zondervan publishing, traditional publishing house of American Reformed line of Dutch origin, known publisher of Bibles for decades, such as the King James Version, the Berkeley Version, the Amplified Bible and the NIV, was attended dissemination and distribution of NIV, yet not in their preparation.

The NIV has a Protestant profile, and he does not favor any particular denomination. It is theologically balanced and seeks to use the language of the current Portuguese. The NIV translation process with the participation of renowned Protestant scholars like Russell Shedd, Estevan Kirschner, Luiz Sayão Carlos Osvaldo Pinto and Randall Cook (archaeologist in Israel).

Despite the similarities between the New International Version and the New International Version, the Brazilian version is not a translation of the English language, but the original languages.
Footnotes are frequent in NIV. They bring all sorts of explanations and in some cases have alternative translations (including what would be the literal translation).

Lausanne Covenant

All NIV translators are adherent to the Lausanne Covenant:
"I affirm the divine inspiration, fidelity and authority of all of the Old and New Testament Scriptures as the only written Word of God, without error in all that it affirms, and the infallible rule of faith and practice."
