About Inverter Reader

Displays the daily production of your SMA inverter with a linegraph.

Currently supported models:
1700TL, 2100TL, 3000TL, 3000TLHF, 4000TL, 5000TL, 10000TL

The use of this App has technical limitations because of the conditions while using Bluetooth. These limitations are inherent to the App and have nothing to do with the SMA
inverter.

Instructions:
Switch on your bluetooth.
Hit the menu button and select 'Settings', then 'Inverters' to list your current inverters.
To add new ones select 'Scan for devices'.
If new ones have been found you can select one of them, enter its password, select the model and click on 'Save'.
Go back to the settings screen to select this new inverter as the current one.
Next hit the menu button and select 'Connect inverter' to begin reading the production data of the current day.
You can use a sideways swipe gesture to access the daily production, total production and lastly a screen with detailed info about the inverter.
Swipe up or down to change the day, week or month.
If your inverter doesn't broadcast itself you can manually enter the inverter info with 'Manual setup'.
Select 'Date' to select the current day. If no values are found the screen will be black and you ought to connect to your inverter.
To switch to another inverter select 'Settings' and choose the one you want.
To be able to export to pvoutput.org go to settings and select 'PVOutput'. Click the 'Add' button to add your pvoutput specific data. Be careful with that api key, it is error prone. Next click save and when going back to the settings screen you must select a current pvoutput system.
I noticed that exporting to pvoutput is unfortunately not allowed beyond 2 weeks in the past. :-/
You can also export the current day to a csv file. I took over the format used by SMA. The files are stored in /Android/data/be.geek.smandroid/files/.
This has been tested with a HTC Desire running Gingerbread 2.3.3 and a SMA Sunny Boy 2000HF-30 inverter.
If you have one of those select '3000TLHF' as model.

Be aware that after a few weeks of daily intake your application's data size can grow considerably. Use the 'Delete' button in the inverter detail screen (or use the 'Clear data' button from app management).
Or use the Delete menu option from the main menu.

You can switch to an alternate view from Settings. Select 'Current view' to choose between a dayly (default), weekly or monthly view.
If you choose a weekly or a monthly view you can now retrieve data from the displayed date range. Be aware that reading an entire month can take a considerable time.

The 'Live' option allows you to read inverter data continuously. Select the current day first (I'll sort it out automatically in a next update). The update interval is specified in Settings by selecting 'Current live delay'.
If you have a pvoutput system it will then export to this.

All the code that communicates with the inverter is originally from:
http://code.google.com/p/sma-bluetooth/
My java port is here:
https://github.com/g3ek/smajava

Important note for those with problems: this is essentially a java port of sma-bluetooth.
Consider joining the sma-bluetooth mailing list if you're having problems with your type of inverter. If you get helpful answers you can relay them back to me and I'll see what I can do.

Troubleshooting:
Your android device and inverter must first be paired before being allowed to connect. Usually a notification will pop up the first time you try to connect allowing you to enter the pairing password.
Some users have been unable to connect with their HTC Desire HD devices with v2.3.5. I will try to trace the source of this problem.
Apparenly the inverter code for 5000TL-21 is still wrong. Could somebody confirm this?

I'm using a Samsung S5 which doesn't have a menu button, thus the interface just shows a black screen with the message 'no inverter found'. My phone is paired through bluetooth to the inverter but I cannot make the app work without a menu button in the interface. Sorry but had to delete it.

Q70%

The UI is unintuitive and looks like a cli dev's first foray into guis. The application crashes on unexpected input from the inverter. And wtf is it with that license you have to accept at the start?

Looks like it would be great, but it gets stuck at ~50% when loading the data with our Sunny Boy 3000HF. It would be great if there was a fix.

Receiving data to my Galaxy Ace through bluetooth from a 5000TL. It took me some time to figure out how to make it work though, so here are my tips : make sure you are pretty close to the inverter (bluetooth is not made for long distances) and before anything else pair your mobile with the inverter (it will ask for a password, usually 0000 or 1234). Then follow the developers instructions, they are quite helpful. Thanks for a great app, keep up the good work.

I needed something that would take the live data from my SunnyBoy 3600TL and upload it to PVOutput. This app runs in the background and updates whenever it can. Range to inverter with a HTC desire about 5m (inverter in loft, phone on the ground floor). Read the installation instructions on Google Play, ensure inverter is paired with the phone in Android Setting first, and reboot the phone if it complains about a service not starting. A great app.

work most of the time. may not be 100% but good enough consider it is free. Also work on 3000TL.

Using Nexus 7 at close range, could not complete data read trying all 3 5000 series inverter options. Various error messages including maximum number of retries. Promising app but appears to need more work to ensure reliable operation.

Works very well on SMA 3000TL20. There is a live setting, to download from te SMA and upload to pvoutput automatically.

S70%

Very nice app works well. However due to mobiles class1 bluetooth need to be close to inverter, adout 3 meters. Any sign of a mobile desktop widget? Keep up the great work! Any updates coming? Hahaaa

Always stalls at line 58. Samsung S4 mini. Wont let me give 0 stars.

S70%
by S####:

Works flawlessly with my 5000TL-20. Will only go back as far as 60 days which I feel may be the limitations of the data on the inverter. Can easily download the days info and upload to PV output in less than a minute. Way easier than stuffing around with getting a PC to do it.
