About ARP 2600 Synth

Bristol version of the famous ARP-2600 "Blue Meanie" semi-modular synthesizer with 3 Oscillator, filter, 2 Envelopes, noise, ring-mod, electro-switch, signal processing, FX and fully re-routable using patch cables.

It works on all my handsets however the load may be pushing the limits. A tablet version of this with modified high res graphics will follow. You have been warned: this is a little over-the-top for a phone but seriously good fun.

Integrated sequencing is included for major filter tweaking, output can be recorded to SDcard and to Ringtones, etc.

The app supports X/Y accelerometer for pitch and mod, multitouch and zooming interface facilities. The interface has options analogue style filters and rich oscillators however these will consume extra CPU cycles. The interface has a floating piano keyboard under the zoom setting.

Interface zooming can be done either with the trackball (Nexus/HTC have them) or enable multitouch via the menu then tap the screen with two fingers at the same time - this will zoom the interface in/out. There is also a floating 'zoom' button in the corner since gestures are awkward with active interfaces.

Patches are saved on the SD card along with factory sounds, there is an export and import option to exchange patches.

The emulator will, per default, attempt to run with a set of options that will give reasonable quality and the lowest possible latency/lag. The quality of the audio can be tuned with the menu options however the lowest possible latency for pretty much all Android devices is currently 42ms, on my HTC Desire it is 70ms. If you understand what this means then the value might seem quite high but the app is still a lot of fun.

Tested on HTC Desire/2.2, LG Optimus 2x/2.2, SE Xperia Arc/2.3, Emulator hires. The Arp2600 is one of a family of emulators from the same author.

I wanted to like it but it is worthless on my tablet. Couldn't retract purchase because it took too long to revive my tab s.

I purchased this app a couple years ago and installed on my Samsung Galaxy SIII. It would work for a short time but as soon as I started editing a patch it would lock up requiring me to use the "emergency exit" tab to close it out. Unfortunately it fares no better on the LG G Pad 8.3 LTE or LG G4 (though the G4 shouldn't be a surprise as I doubt there's been an update for a while). I had high hopes for the chance to play with a 2600 even if it was only virtual, but those hopes were dashed a few times over.

Really poor buffering with lots of crackles, had to use lowest sample rate and largest buffer settings which makes it unusable, shame

Pure garbage

No support for external midi devices as input to trigger channels, poor graphics, useless in portrait mode. Basicly bought this for use with external midi controller having this as generator just to see this builders layout and supports befor buying anything else. It lack everything. Not worth it. Also lacks a demo to see befor you you buy, now you know why owo

Very bad performance on a Samsung Galaxy Ace: Low sample rate, dropouts, bad resolution graphics - captions under controls are not readable. Latency is 48ms.

Especially the patch chords on this one, just like the original hardware back in the 70's. Oh so retro! It also works great on my new Nexus 7! You MUST know at least a little bit about analog synthesizers to use this app. Start with a simpler one like the MiniMoog first otherwise. This one is complex, like the hardware it emulates. It is not a game, rather a complex electronic musical instrument emulation.

This app is incredible. For only a few bucks I got 3 oscillators and filters and cool loud sounds.Perfect for creating Ringtones Etc..

The emulation of the original is so brilliant that it is extremely difficult to use on a touch screen, TOO MANY BUTTONS

Would be amazing if it didn't crash regularly ...disappointed.

I've downloaded 10 of these synth emulators and have yet to get bored with them!! My ONLY NEGATIVE CRITICISM would be THAT THEY ARE NOT AVAILABLE on the Amazon APP Store, WHICH I DESPERATELY WISH THEY WERE!!!! My COBY tablet cannot use Google App store, SO PRETTY, PRETTY, PLEASE, NIKO, SELL THEM ON AMAZON APP STORE???????!!! Besides, you have nothing to lose!!!!!

I am incredibly impressed with this, slight latency issue on HTC desire but still amazing sounds

Works even on my Wildfire S, though slow, But hey..it is fun!! Thanks again Nick

Actually, should be 4 and 3/4 stars - the extra 1/4 comes when the sequencing arrives ;-)

Terrible graphics on tablet make this app look ugly and uninviting. When Android is trying to compete with iOS the last thing it needs is grainy looking apps with amateurish visuals regardless of whether or not its an audio app. Not good enough. Refunding...

Kinda pi$$ed me off when I found out the latency was worse on the Nexus than my galaxy S 2 but that's because these devices are meant for people who have the mind of a child good value I might purchase a few more these THANKS!
