About BeyondNow suicide safety plan
If you or someone close to you is experiencing suicidal thoughts or feelings, having a safety plan can help you get through the tough moments.
Your safety plan starts with things you can do by yourself, such as thinking about your reasons to live and distracting yourself with enjoyable activities. It then moves on to coping strategies and people you can contact for support – your friends, family and health professionals.
Convenient and confidential, BeyondNow puts your safety plan in your pocket so you can access and edit it at any time. You can also email a copy to trusted friends, family or your health professional to help them support you.
BeyondNow is designed to be used as part of your overall mental wellbeing and safety strategy. It is not intended to be your only form of support. Ideally you should work with a health professional or support person to create your plan, at a time when you’re feeling calm and relaxed.
If you are in an emergency or at immediate risk of harm, please contact emergency services on triple zero (000).
Background to BeyondNow:
BeyondNow was developed by beyondblue and Monash University, and funded by donations from The Movember Foundation.
We’d like to acknowledge the involvement of our expert advisory committee, made up of leading researchers and practitioners in the suicide prevention field. Special thanks also to the members of our consultation group for sharing their experiences of suicide and providing ideas, feedback and wisdom at every stage.
This is the first app of its kind in Australia. It uses a model developed by world-leading suicide prevention experts Professor Barbara Stanley (Columbia University, US) and Professor Gregory Brown (University of Pennsylvania, US).
