Fires Near Me NSW for Android
This application provides information on current incidents across NSW attended by the RFS and other agencies. It also provides information on total fire bans.
The application gives users the ability to source information on incidents near them, using the ‘Fires Near Me’ function.
The ‘Fires near Me’ application is a pilot, and as such its features may vary. Support for the application is not provided due to its inherent simplicity. More information may be found http://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au .
Your feedback, however, is gratefully sought, and will help us develop an even more useful way of giving you information on fires near you. Please send any feedback here: mobilefeedback@rfs.nsw.gov.au .

Very slow on updates during fires, no ability to define an area near me for warnings. (unlike Vic emergency app). Not enough detail either and accuracy is a bit slapstick. Better than nothing though
Great app but 50 km radius is a bit huge in some cases. Would be nice to set to a smaller realistic size. Also would be nice to superimpose smoke data from BOM radar with satellite picture so we get an indication of fire (smoke) intensity and travel direction.
Have been watching an out of control fire a few kms away for hours now and still not showing on the app although it is shown on the rfs website? I love the rfs and what you do for us but someone needs to work on getting info on to the app, some people rely on apps for info. Again, thanks to the women and men of of nsw rfs you are appreciated.
Essential for all NSW residents & visitors. Be forewarned of potential risks especially when on vacation, away from your usual residence. I'm giving it 5 Stars Highly recommended. HTC One M7, HTC One Max, Kitcat 4.4.3, 4.4.2 & Sense 6.0.
My kids get stressed at the sight of smoke and this is great to actually see how far away a fire actually is to make them feel safer, and to know if we should actually do something as well. Perfect.
This app is so handy as I live in a bush fire prone area. The reason why I didn't give it 5 stars is because the pin function does not save when you next open the app. And the automatic location is usually 5kms off from where I actually am.
My sister had this app so I downloaded it and one time there was a lot of smoke so I looked it up on this app and the fire was down the road from me
This is a great app and incredibly helpful !! But a small change j think is needed is that watch and Act and Emergency Warning alerts on the map need to be highlighted and put in on top of none urgent fires, I've found that recently when there have been emergency warning fires they gave been hidden underneath less important fires in the near vicinity and have been hard to spot. Thanks! :)
Gives peace of mind. Chevk the wind direction and speed and you have a good indication of where the problems lie and if they will effect you. Thanks guys and gals it is a great app.
It would be good if the app identified when a fire started. Hard to know whats new and what has been burning for a while.
I found the fire nsw app very helpful I managed to find out fire nsw was conducting a control burn in our local state forest near our town of Morriset nsw and fires at cessock as well will definitely use this app especially when I'm out and about
The information is slow to update, if the info is parsed from the website a more timely updating of the website would help both systems. Also, a feature where by you can set a home location or use the mobile's GPS position and provide push notifications to users within a user set distance would be great improvement. Sometimes you only find out the is a fire nearby when you head out of the house and see smoke.
Had this on my previous phone, was pretty good. Refuses to install on my new phone (LG G3). Been trying all day. Will not download.
It would be great if there was an in app info bar or tab to explian the difference between a white, blue, yellow and red fires. And maybe a forcast wind direction. Also the burnt area doesnt show up.
It needs notifications for less than 50kms. Would be usefull if it had this. Without it the app isn't much help at all
but pls be more updated with fires because went though Garrgong road recently and it said it was stilk burning but it was out
Why is there two nearly identical fires near me apps in the play store.

good all round but crashes when I zoom in. could you add a option to receive a notification when theres a fire near you. besides that pretty useful
Great app. Very very handy.
Whilst this is a really good app for the detail it provides, it would be 5 stars if you had the option to set a location and a distance (a widget would be good) that would give you an alert, rather than having to open the app. The Victorian CFA app (Fire Ready) has a watch zone and alerts.

A biy buggy, doesnt always show the area the fire has burned. (One day there, next day gone, day after bigger area burned, day after ni area greyed out)

The only issue I find, is that zooming and panning around the map causes the "blackened" fire-zone area to move around, this becoming inaccurate.
More than once I have used this app to ensure the safety of myself, my home and those to whom I am close.
Cant save the map so shows the same location and zom ratio next time have to click gps to centre my loc then press screen to see zoom buttons then zoom 6 times. When click fires button fires often listed by street only no suburb mentioned. No option to receive alerts. Not always up to date. Glendale nsw fire wss showing 1ha for many many hours and then finally updated to show 100 ha but didnt know how close to my house as no shaded area showing burnt section. Good if saved manually entered loc.

There have been many times that fires in my local area have not been added. Would not rely on information contained in this app. Shoalhaven area.
Email does not work
The peace of mind this app gives is immeasurable.

What's the difference between this app and the other one?
Freezes and crashes often. Slow when working, good idea, needs improvements to make it great
Accurate factual information about fires, not the media hyped news we've come to expect on TV & radio. Easy to use.
As a firefighter myself I find it good to know where incidents are around my area
As an RFS member keeps me constantly up to date on fire situation during summer.
To slow, freezing, crashing, but good idea. Need improvement.

Good basic app for seeing which fires are nearby. Really needs the ability to push a notification to users when a fire is nearby, otherwise you have to keep checking the app to see if fires are close or load it up when you smell smoke. Have lived in Victoria and used the FireReady CFA app which you can set proximity alerts for multiple locations (good if you have a 2nd property or concerned about a relative), very handy feature.
