About Speed Adviser

DESCRIPTION
Speed Adviser is a driver's aid designed to reduce speeding and save lives in NSW. Using the GPS capability of your phone, the Speed Adviser app monitors your location and speed, and alerts you via visual and audible warnings if you exceed the speed limit. Speed Adviser is for NSW roads only.

NEVER BE UNSURE OF THE SPEED LIMIT AGAIN
Speed Adviser displays the speed limit for the road you are travelling on. Speed limit data has been compiled by NSW Roads and Maritime Services (RMS), Transport for NSW and TomTom.

DOWNLOADING AND INSTALLATION
You can install Speed Adviser using the Play Store app on your phone (called “Market” on older phones), or by accessing the Google Play website on your computer. Generally, Speed Adviser will not download to your phone until it has been connected to a WiFi network. Be aware that it will probably cost you more to download the app over a mobile phone network than by WiFi.

BE NOTIFIED OF SPEED LIMIT CHANGES
You can nominate how Speed Adviser tells you of a change in the speed limit. You can elect to have the new speed limit spoken in a male or female voice, to hear a simple sound effect, or to disable all audio alerts entirely and rely on the visual alert (speed limit symbol with a flashing yellow background).

TOO FAST!
Speed Adviser will play an audible alert and a visual alert if you are speeding, to remind you to keep safely within the sign posted speed limit. If you continue to exceed the speed limit, Speed Adviser will repeat the audible and visual alerts. If you elect to hear alerts as spoken words, you will hear the warning "Too fast".

SCHOOL ZONES
Always know when a school zone is active. Speed Adviser knows where and when every school zone in NSW operates, including gazetted school days and non-standard school times. Speed Adviser lets you know if the school zone is active and will display the speed limit of 40 km/h.

HEAVY VEHICLES
You can specify if you're driving a heavy vehicle or a light vehicle. If you select ‘Heavy vehicle’ and you exceed the state-wide maximum speed limit of 100 km/h you will receive a warning from the app. Speed Adviser will not alert you of any heavy vehicle-specific speed limit restrictions below 100 km/h, for example 40 km/hr heavy vehicle speed zones.

RUN OTHER APPS AT THE SAME TIME
Audible alerts from Speed Adviser still play when the app is running in the background. This means you can have other apps operating and still hear announcements and warnings from Speed Adviser.

L PLATE AND P PLATE DRIVERS
Learner and Provisional ‘P1’ drivers are not permitted to use this app. Provisional ‘P2’ drivers are permitted to use this app. It will operate with the NSW speed restriction of 100 km/h which applies to all Provisional ‘P2’ drivers in NSW. However, commencing on 1 December 2016 P2 licence holders will no longer be permitted to use a mobile phone at all, including Speed Adviser.

WARNINGS
You must comply with the NSW Road Rules and not use the app or your smartphone in any manner contrary to the Road Rules.
Always have your phone in a commercial phone mount when using a driver’s aid such as Speed Adviser, in accordance with the NSW Road Rules, and ensure your phone does not obscure your view of the roadway.

Because it takes a lot of power to run the GPS hardware in your phone, and to reduce battery drain on your phone, you should use your car’s power socket while operating Speed Adviser. Also, you should always shut down the app when you are finished driving.

PRIVACY
Speed Adviser does not collect data or report speeding events to Transport for NSW or any other organisation or agency.

Is there any way to update the map data? I've been getting a message saying the map data is over a year old and needs to be updated.

Not good. Does not advise speed verbally when driving, but keeps telling me speed when phone in pocket walking out of car.

I thought this free app only for 7days & now I find it difficult to uninstall.

Keeps your eyes on the road , and not continually watching speedo. Only problem is Airport tunnel / Gen Holmes Drive is 70K (Variable) not 60 K..

U70%
by U####:

Would be better if it could reduce down to a floating icon so that I could still see nav maps and the speed limit at t he same time.

I've been using this great app fot over a year now and its been awesome. I go through 9 school zones on my way to work, certainly helping me to keep my licence

Waste of time continues to say unknown Road

Z70%
by Z####:

Great app but voice is 3x louder than needed and you cannot adjust this separately from media. It also pauses you music and does not unpause it so you have to touch your phone to get it going again. This is illegal and dangerous and this app requires it when it could easily not require it.

Z70%

Why no speed camera alert?

I70%
by I####:

Incorrect speed limit. App reads out 50 when I drove pass a 60 sign

R70%

Is it possible to make a floating icon? So that it can be kept always be on top of a display even when using other apps.

Z70%
by Z####:

It would be nicer if this app also shows the current car speed. Good info to have namely school zone.

Why no speed camera alert?

S70%

While listening to Spotify Music App... When a audio warning comes on your app, it reduces the audio volume of spotify to about half. Only way to get volume back to normal is to pause Spotify playback then press play again. But, I should not have to touch my phone as I drive. Its clearly a design fault in your app. Pls investigate and alter it.

Nice concept but uses a ridiculous amount of battery, even when not in use. Uninstalling.

Q70%

Preferred when i was telling me what speed i was exactly doing! So I knew incase a cars speed'O was out!!! I don't just want it to flash and say slow down!!! USELESS

Q70%

Great app . How often have you just wondered what the speed limit is? Now you can know all the time.

Dearest developers, please, follow device orientation settings instead of overriding. Also, follow Android style guides rather than old Apple iOS ones

Y70%

This is lucky if it's right 50% of the time. Tells me to slow down to 50 in 100 zone. Says 100 in a 50, 100 in a 70 even gives 2 different speeds when travelling different directions on the same road. Someone needed to do a lot of work on this before it was released to get it even reasonably close to being right....

This app is really so great in every way. and i was waiting for such thing for long time. it could save the last 5 points in my licence. the only thing about that app is that, it is not very accurate. for ex: Wollongong Rd, Arncliffe NSW 2205 the speed limit is 50 but the app says it is 60. but to be fair still more accurate than my new Garmin GPS. i hope it will come to the point when i don't need to look for speed sign anymore with that app

It would be really good if somewhere else on the screen it showed the vehicles actual speed.

Very accurate
