Little Help

Aimed at bridging the safety gap created in the move from landlines to mobile phones, the Little Help App provides a simple method for kids to send for help in case of an emergency. A single tap of the Help! button initiates three crucial steps of your child’s Home Emergency Plan:

1. Calls your designated emergency contact
2. Sends an SMS to up to 8 emergency contacts
3. Provides an accurate location map of your whereabouts (to the metre)

Created by parents, Little Help is designed specifically for ease-of-use by children and with real-life-situation safeguards in place.

Permissions explained:

Read contacts - we store the contacts you select in the app's preferences. Note that if a contact's details change, you will have to remove and re-add them.

Read phone status - ensures the help button is synchronised with the state of a call with the chosen emergency phone contact.

Access fine location - if you choose, the app can send location details to emergency contacts after the initial help message.

Call phone and Send SMS - the app can place a call and send SMSs to emergency contacts without needing approval from the user. This saves precious seconds in a dire situation.
Note that Android restricts the number of SMSs that can be sent in a span of time, from 100 messages per hour in Ice Cream Sandwich, to 30 messages per half hour from Jellybean onwards. If this limit is reached, users will be asked to confirm message sending.
