Peak.ar for Android
Experience the intriguing panorama of the peaks surrounding you.
Have you ever wondered "What is the name of that prominent peak over there?” – find the answer simply by taking a look through the camera of your iPhone or Android device.
The advanced segmentation and display algorithms show you all peak names without obstructing the marvelous panorama.
Stagger even the greatest hiking buffs when showing off the fascinating panoramic view this application provides when standing on top of a mountain!
This app works on devices with a still camera and a magnetometer/accelerometer.
A lways it requires a internet connection to update the database which is difficult to get in mountain. Does't work fine the peak recognising
Camera display is inverted horizontally and vertically (Nexus 5X). Won't display imperial units. Would like ability to take photos with peak label overlay and also set minimum label distance, but would be happy if just the bugs were fixed.
Identified the local peaks super easily. I am very impressed.
The app isn't easy to use. Sluggish. Great idea .. Needs more work.
Looks like it may be showing right peaks but pointing in wrong direction. Calibration may not be working with Droid DNA.
Very helpful app! Such a great concept. I'm excited to see this app continue developing.
Shows the peaks in my neighbourhood, even when it sometimes seems to be a little "off". What is missing is an even bigger range: e.g. on some days I can clearly see a mountain peak, that's about 40km away from me - but I can't seem to show it in the app.
I'm looking directly at Mt Rainier and Mt Baker and it wont identify either one! I think you need a tutorial for this app. I found the dial off to the right by accident to fine tune the peak finder.
Great idea and useful execution. Wish that the unit settings worked for the peaks and not just the range function. Just a few tweaks away from awesome.
Excellent app
Schlechte Erkennung
Would give 5 stars if: - show also cities, lakes, mpasses... - when rotating phone all peaks disappear at some constant position - deshake peak view
Tested it on two Galaxy Tabs, didn't work. Different troubles on both devices.
Great app, would give 5 stars but it runs in the background constantly and eats power, won't shut down even with task manager.
Reagiert auf Bewegungen nicht. @desire

Fixed now great app it is not completely accurate
Can't get it to actually go to mountain top. No calibration and most of the time it shuts down before starting. Droidx
Great app. I would like to see font sizes and use of the camera / phone's image stabilization.
WOULD BE GREAT IF FONT LARGER AND PEAK. NAMES DIDN'T SHAKE MAKING IT UNUSABLE HTC DESIRE
Gps takes forever but cool app DroidX
New version is a huge step backward;don't update!
Useful app for people who like geography and always want to know where they are trekking/walking/cycling.
In the alps it didn't show the correct peaks at all
Imparato ad usare il selettore sulla destra...poi è un divertimento!
I found Peak AR to be not accurate when finding known peaks. The interface needs work.
While driving I pointed this app at mt shasta. Mt shasta dominated our view for a good 10 minutes and this app never registered mt shasta. Instead it showed some random peaks that no one has heard of and I could not read the peaks that it does show because the names go off the screen and get cut off. Also I changed the units to imperial but it still shows metric. There is a lot of debugging to do!
but on Android, it doesn't even work. Went hiking on a new trail today, one where I knew I'd be able to see dozens of nearby peaks. Downloaded this app, and went on my way. Launched it on the trail, and it said there was an updated database. Well, I had just a weak GPRS data connection so there was no chance of downloading the 4MB update. I tried to ignore it, and the app crashed. Got home, downloaded the update, and it says the database is corrupt now. Sigh, uninstalling.
I love the idea of this app. I live in Teton Valley, ID, and there are several distinctive views of the west slope of the Tetons from my house. I have had this app for a while but every time I try it, either it shows an incorrect peak, or does not line up correctly with the real peak. I hope you get the kinks worked out. If this worked well, it would be fantastic.
I live in Telluride, this is my guide!!
Every other app on my phone that needs GPS works no problem. But this just says it cans find a GPS position. It sucks.
Elevations are always in m no matter how I set in settings. Readings are usually a bit off target too.
Great app found it very Imformative on holiday in Austria. Just needs the option to take photo with the information on the screen
Worked great till new update. Peaks shake when trying to look and cant look as far back to distant peaks as before. Liked older version better. Evo
Works well in sw BC, Canada... Very cool!
When you turn your phone, the mountains change position, and the whole screen starts jerking around. It gets the position of mountains up to 20 degrees off even when you keep the phone steady for a while.
Works fine on Nexus one gingerbread & it's free!!!
It doesn't work on Your Android. Works great on my DX2. Only problem I have found is can't make the metric to imperial work. Oh, and yes it would be cool to be able to take a photo. Apple iOS sux.
Great app, and it works around the globe! Keep up the good work.

If this actually worked it would be SO cool. But the markers don't line up with the actual peaks. So it's kinda useless.
