About Fractview

Viewer for fractals like the mandelbrot set, lyapunov fractals and complex functions supporting intuitive pinch-to-zoom with many features. In a nutshell:

* View fractals like the mandelbrot set, julia set, burning ship, newton fractals, lyapunov fractals, phoenix fractals, pendulum simulation and complex functions.
* Zoom/Shear fractals using intuitive pinch-to-zoom gestures
* Set your own functions or transfers
* Pick from a large selection of (re-) combinable samples.
* Modify colors using an intuitive drag-and-drop palette editor (support for two dimensional palettes, using LAB color space).
* Use 3D-mode, branching also for eg the newton fractal.
* Generate images with an arbitrary resolution.
* Save and share your images.
* Share specifications of fractals with others
* Add your favorites and pick up from old ones.
* Uses Renderscript to generate images on GPU (speed-up of at least factor 10 compared to FractViewLite).

The following blog highlights certain topics on the app: https://fractview.wordpress.com/
Check out the following video for a short overview over some of the features: https://youtu.be/M3ZdPJykk9k

The app supports very intuitive gestures like pinch-to-zoom (moving, rotation, scaling and even shearing using up to 3 fingers). The philosophy is similar to Google Maps - moving a finger moves the point below it accordingly.

The app itself contains presets for newton fractals, orbit traps, lyapunov fractals, even pendulum simulations (https://nylander.wordpress.com/2007/10/27/magnetic-pendulum-strange-attractor/), or simply view complex functions using the color wheel coloration. All these presets contain parameters that allow you so easily enter custom functions. There is support for all kinds of functions (from exp to log, from sin to atanh) and even derivates are generated automatically.

There is an intuitive editor for (2-dimensional) color palettes using the LAB-Colorspace. Images can be saved (as pngs) and shared. Furthermore, you can save the fractal description and send it to others to share your work. The app furthermore includes an intuitive bookmark system with the possibility to export your saved favorites.

As an old school fractal lover, from legendary Fractint to Mandelbulber, I believe Fractview is currently one of the better on the go fractal apps for Android. Fast, versatile and good user control. Request: full screen rendering, since always translucent left/right gray border visible. Tested on several xda's. Application created definitely with passion for fractals. Many thanks, Karl !

Wow. Now that's customer service. I'm guessing English isn't your first language because nowhere in my comment was I rude. I asked for help. I wanted to learn how to use it. I design clothing that would make a beautiful canvas for this kind of art. When I use an app to help design a product I always give the developer free advertising. --------------------------------------- I love fractals but have no grasp at all on how they work. Is there somewhere I can find instructions for this app? I need Fractals for Dummies or something..... and this app has no guidance or instructions that I can see ????

I've been doing fractal art for over 30 years on desktop computers (I "cut my fractal teeth" on an Amiga in the early 80's). I only recently started fooling around with doing this on my phone, assuming that most (if not all) apps that would do this on a handheld device would be oversimplified and underpowered. I was both shocked and impressed by this app...easy to use, but deep enough to stay interesting, and remarkably powerful. My hat is off to the author, and I expect to be spending a bunch of time playing this.

Just wanted some cool visuals, didn't realise a maths degree was required. No attempt whatsoever at a tutorial. How hard would it be to add some simple text explanations? I don't want to invest a chunk of spare time to studying this and all the preset gave me was a small, static Mandelbrot spread across 3 screens on a horrible blue background. Maybe I'm too stupid for this, no thank you.

This app creates great fractals, but produces an error when I try to save the image. So I uninstalled it.

I'm loving this so far... Have made some beautiful images and you've made me actually interested in the math behind it. So, thanks heaps

Very good app. I would like it if it had color cycling like FractInt because I always enjoyed changing the palat and illustrating the fractal geometry by watching colors go inward or outward.

Beautiful app, very well done, quite powerful. You probably want to know a little about fractals to fully appreciate it.

Probably the best fractal viewer I've found for android. Easy to use and lots of options.

One of the straightforward apps that has quality resolution output, alot of samples, wide range of palette choices. ⬜Please change the palette back to the old method. The new method doesn't give much choices but the old palette allows you to have more multiples of hues and to individual change colors so certain zones are effected.

I cannot rate this app highly enough. No app is perfect, but this one comes very close. I have used about a dozen fractal apps over the past 20 years on several different platforms. The quality of power and usability has varied widely. Some have been easier to use than Fractview, but they sacrificed power (they didn't have the versatility of Fractview). Some have been more powerful than Fractview, but they sacrificed usability (the user interface was so complicated that it required an advanced math degree to configure it). Fractview is as close to the perfect balance of usability and power that I have yet seen in a fractal app. Even the non-essential user features (such as locking rotation) are extremely well thought out. The user interface is a mini-masterpiece of shallow and depth. I'm still figuring out some of the features, but I have groked so much intuitively without research that my hat is off to the designer. Thank you, Sir or Madam! I have a small wish list of features that I will attempt to communicate to the developer. Simple things, mostly. I am a fussy guy; I whine about irritating, annoying sloppy design and things that don't work properly. I have found NONE of that in this app. Get it. It does not disappoint.
