علاء الاسواني طبيب أسنان وأديب مصري ، من أشهر أعماله رواية عمارة يعقوبيان التي حققت نجاحا مذهلا وترجمت إلى العديد من اللغات وتحولت إلى فيلم سينمائي ومسلسل تليفزيوني ، إضافة إلى شيكاجو ونيران صديقة ، وهو أول مصري يحصل على جائزة برونو كرايسكي التي فاز بها من قبله الزعيم الجنوب أفريقي نيلسون مانديلا ، كما أنه صاحب العديد من المساهمات الصحفية.
