جمع المؤلف في هذا الكتاب ما عثر عليه في القدماء، وما تلقاه من العلماء من الرجال والنساء، لأن الأعمال السفلية خاصة بالنساء أكثر من الرجال حيث سمع عنها وعثر عليها وشاهدها بنفسه. وقد بيّن جميع ذلك في هذا الكتاب الذي ذكر فيه جميع العلوم العلوية والسفلية.
