About MapY
Find the height of a fixed object or how high you are off of the ground using a ground reference on a map. Great for determining height of buildings, towers, statues, water towers, etc.
Toggle between imperial and metric units.
**ADVICE
Place the map marker directly below the point of the object you will be measuring and aim the camera directly above that same point from the map in the next step.
You are making a triangle using distance obtained from maps and the device angle measured by internal sensors. The camera is only to help you aim, the image is not used in the calculation.
For best accuracy; try to stand at a distance that angles the phone at roughly a 45 degree angle and do your best to hold the device level and stable.
You are measuring the difference in height between your phone and the point of interest. So be aware of ground elevation differences and hills between you and the object.
** Caveats
GPS is accurate to roughly 3 meters (9.8 feet).
It is not clear how accurate Google's satellite imagery actually is.
Not all Android phones operate on the same level of precision regarding internal sensors.
That said, the app is quite handy for approximating heights but should not be depended on in scenarios where an exact height is required.
