Longside Radio

Longside Radio is a community internet radio station from Martley, Worcestershire in the UK broadcasting 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to listeners both locally and worldwide.

The Longside Radio app allows you to simply listen to Longside Radio on your Android phone anywhere you have a data signal.

*** Please note: this application connects to the internet to stream music, please ensure you have sufficient data available on your phone data plan or are connected to a wireless network. ***

Using it is simple, load the app and it will start playing, press the pause button to pause/stop and the play to start it off again.

If you don't want it to start playing as soon as you load the app just scroll down and untick the "Automatically play on startup box.

The app will play music in the background, either re-launch or swap back to the application to stop it.


This is still early days and therefore is a bit light on features but if you run into any issues or have any suggestions please let me know in the comments!


Permissions
------------------

The application utilises the MIT App Inventor framework which requires some permissions regardless of if the application actually needs it.

Permissions required are :

Read Phone Status and Identity: This is so if you get a phone call or notification it stops the playback until you have finished.

Modify or delete the contents of your SD card: This is partly the app inventor framework and the images for the app are stored on the card and need to be accessed.

Full network access / view network connections / view WiFi connections : We need to connect to the internet to stream the station, we also call the Longside Radio web server to get the currently playing track. Other parts are required by the App Inventor Framework.
