ENT physicians, audiologists, hearing-aid specialists, and other providers who deal with audiograms are repeatedly asked "what is the percent of my hearing loss?" The answer can be calculated in seconds with this handy application. It uses the standard American Academy of Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery formula, which for each ear is [(avg dB at 500, 1000, 2000, and 3000 Hz)-25] X 1.5; bianural hearing handicap is based on a fivefold weight to the better hearing ear. This formula is used in most states for Disability Determination and is also useful when legal issues are involved. A neuro-otologist developed this app and uses it almost every day in his busy private practice.
