Have hearing loss? Stop missing out. Live Caption is an easy tool to help you keep up with conversations. Launch the app to caption every word in real time. Spoken text shows large on your iPhone or iPad, so you can read what is being said.

How It Works:
To begin, press the microphone button on the device’s keyboard, speak, and text results will appear.
Live Caption works with connected Bluetooth devices like headsets and standalone microphones.
The app is best for in-person, face-to-face conversation, not for use with incoming phone calls.
To respond with typed text, tap "Clear All" and all previous messages on screen will disappear. Type with keyboard and the typed text will appear at the same size.
You may edit any text as you would in any other text editing software. Tap into your text results and the keyboard will appear to edit your text.
Tap and hold to select text to copy, paste or share via other applications.
Tips:
Pair with Bluetooth devices to caption at greater distances. Good for use in a classroom, in church or at the office where user controls the app.
Stream the app to a Television by connecting a Chromecast for a larger display
Captioning may not be as accurate with strong accents or children's voices.
Live Caption does not record or store voice or text results. Once the "Clear All" button is tapped results cannot be retrieved.
Live Caption will return results in any language the phone is set to. For example, if the phone is set to spanish, the app will caption spanish results.
New microphone stays open for longer periods to stream caption with no interruptions. Use the microphone in the keyboard. Recommend using Android 5.0 and greater for this advanced microphone.
The previous auto microphone at the top of screen was malfunctioning and had to be removed. This may leave devices running 4.4 or lower without access to a microphone. Recommend upgrading to a higher version of Android.
Resize text from Small, Medium and Large sizes for viewing at a distance.

My dear wife is seriously hearing impaired and we have discussed this app a lot before buying. Full marks to the developer. I wonder if you could advise if there is a way to increase pauses before caption display of first part of sentence pops up and you have to start again?

Worked well for a couple of weeks and then stopped working all of a sudden, and wouldn't start working again even when I restarted the phone. Uninstalled and then reinstalled, and now it is working again.

Thanks to the Developer for this excellent application. It's very accurate and well designed. I have paid 99¢ and tested this. It's perfect for everyone in the Deaf community. Now anyone can communicate with a Deaf or Hard of Hearing person easily with no sign language requirement. I strongly suggest anyone who relies on captions to get this application. I am deafened late in life and had no way to communicate with my wife, friends, neighbors, store clerks, and others. This app has given me back a major portion of my life. I can communicate again. The developer has continued to improve the app (he responds to suggestions, problems, accolades). My wife and I communicate using Live Caption totally. It works well with Wi-Fi and when Wi-Fi is not available my AT&T cellular nearly always is available. It is rare to be in a place where I cannot use Live Caption to provide me captions of spoken English. Let me assure that your expectations are valid though. If the environment is noisy, the speaker is too distant from the mic, the speaker has a "thick" accent or as stated above you have no Internet access you will not be able to use the app. This is not an app for phone captions either. It is for face to face communication. I highly recommend the app and have found that other hearing impaired persons, Audiologists, and those with whom I use this app are amazed and excited about this technology. Kudos to its developer and to Google Play for making this app and personal captioning available.

I don't know what you did but it seems promising to interpret what's going on around - but doesn't work well when you're in a crowd of clamoring talk. Only one on one - back and forth. If you can fix for it to interpret everything that is being said in a room with 10 or more people would be awesome.

Try deaf helper, it's free and better. This has a lot of pauses and the microphone box appears over the text whenever it's recording. I wasted my money. Do not download this app.

I love this app, all it does is use Google speak in a very convenient way. As with goggle speak or any speech recognition software you have to speak clearly and fluently. Try and stay the same distance from the microphone, keep the ambient noise down and it works great.

trying to figure this app out... when I talk to someone, it captions everything I say. I want caption of what the caller is saying.... I know what I am saying.. this is backwards.. any help out there?

I tried several different apps before finding this but this is by far the best. I needed a way to communicate with my nearly deaf mother and this LiveCaption is simple and easy to use. Also, Ryan was there to help me the first time I had question which is VERY rare! Only one thing ... I look forward to an update that allows me to change the font size.

Excellent for communicating with hard of hearing elderly people like my mom who can still respond verbally. Would be even better if spelling corrections to spoken words (esp proper nouns) could be made with keyboard rather than having to repeat entire message and hope it is accurate.

Im in the same boat a s engine nut . This thing is backwards. Im hearing impaired I need something that tells me what the caller is saying . The only thing this app does is repeat what im saying . It contradicts everything its says it does . isn't this suppose to help the person thats hearing impaired ?. If im using this wrong please someone help..

Absolutely 100% love this app. It is amazing. I purchased it so my mum, who went completely deaf suddenly, could understand what i was saying without me having to write everything down. I don't know how i would cope without this app right now. It is the best one I've tried yet and I would strongly recommend it for the deaf community. I use it with a bluetooth microphone and so good. At first I couldn't find the microphone button, but the developer was so quick to get back to me and help. So don't give up if you can't get it to work first go.
