L’emittente radiofonica Radio Buon Consiglio di Frigento (Av) è nata l’8 dicembre 1978. Essa nacque all’ombra della Casa Mariana di Frigento che sorse il 2 agosto 1970 ad opera di padre Stefano M. Manelli e padre Gabriele M. Pellettieri. La volontà di installare una Radio (e poi anche una TV) fu dettata proprio dallo spirito di san Massimiliano Kolbe, mentre la possibilità concreta venne poi dalla legge che “liberalizzava” l’etere in Italia (1976), e dall’accorrere in quella prima Casa Mariana di numerose giovani vocazioni.
All’inizio del gennaio 1979 cadde sul convento un terribile fulmine che bruciò ogni cosa e allora i frati iniziarono ad interessarsi presso ditte specializzate su come riprendere la Radio in modo più efficiente. Così, dopo alcuni “mesi di gestazione”, la Radio Buon Consiglio, “riveduta e corretta” riprese le sue trasmissioni. Era esattamente il 24 maggio 1978, giorno in cui la statua della Madonna di Fatima pellegrina venne a visitare Frigento e il Santuario del Buon Consiglio; in quella occasione, l’allora Vescovo di Avellino, mons. Pasquale Venezia, benedisse i primi studi di trasmissione, e poi, al termine della Messa celebrata sul piazzale del Santuario, diede l’annuncio pubblico della “rinascita” di Radio Buon Consiglio.
Riguardo a questo nome un po’ originale che fu dato alla radio, c’è da ricordare che all’inizio se ne proposero altri: Radio Mariana, Radio Speranza. Alla fine, vinse l’attuale, Radio Buon Consiglio, preso dal titolo del Santuario della Madonna del Buon Consiglio presso cui sorgeva la Casa Mariana. Ed è stato un nome riuscito e gradito, forse perché un nome “religioso” (dalla Madonna) e “umano” (chi non ha bisogno di un “buon consiglio”?!).
In seguito, la RBC è cresciuta di anno in anno, lentamente ma decisamente, fino ad avere circa 10 ripetitori e a coprire quasi tutta la Campania toccando anche le regioni delle Puglie, Lucania, Lazio, Abruzzo.
Radio Buon Consiglio ha anche un primato in ordine di tempo, nel senso che è stata una delle prime radio cattoliche in Italia. È certo, comunque, che, specie all’inizio, molte nuove emittenti religiose si rivolsero a Radio Buon Consiglio per avere registrazioni di programmi da poter mandare in onda sulle loro onde, e tra di esse anche l’attuale conosciutissima Radio Maria.
Nel 2000 un altro fatto importantissimo ha segnato la storia di questa Radio. Vi è stata la fusione tra Radio Buon Consiglio e Radio Speranza, una emittente cattolica della Puglia con redazione a Palo del Colle, gestita da Don Vito Raimondi. Alla sua morte Don Raimondi ha lasciato all’Istituto dei Francescani dell’Immacolata la proprietà e la gestione di tale emittente. In tal modo la Radio Buon Consiglio si è arricchita di ponti radio in tutta la Puglia e anche in alcune zone della Basilicata, allargando di molto il suo campo di irradiazione. Oggi gli ascoltatori della Puglia, insieme a quelli della Campania, sono i più affezionati e coloro che contribuiscono in maniera determinante al sostegno delle numerose spese da affrontare. 
Successivamente le trasmissioni radiofoniche della Radio Buon Consiglio si avvalsero anche della piattaforma satellitare e raggiunsero tutta l’Europa attraverso il satellite. Il segnale radiofonico della Radio Buon Consiglio, inoltre, può attualmente giungere in tutto il mondo attraverso internet.
Bisogna riconoscere nella storia di Radio Buon Consiglio l’azione provvidenziale di Dio, che ama servirsi di mezzi piccoli e poveri per compiere cose grandi.
