Sun Navigation

Sun Navigation is an Android application with which you can find your position on earth from sun’s elevation angle at solar noon (when the sun is at its highest point in the sky for the day).

The application needs the following data to be inserted in order to calculate your estimated latitude and longitude:

1.The observation day.

2.The time of solar noon in UTC / GMT.

3.The true elevation angle of the sun at solar noon in degrees, minutes. The angle can be measured accurately with a sextant or with the method of measuring the shadow of a vertical object.

4.The estimated hemisphere of the place ( North or South).

5.The sun azimuth at solar noon ( North or South). The azimuth angle indicates the direction of the sun in the horizontal plain.

When all the above data are inserted, press the calculate button in order the app to calculate, with accuracy to about ±4 nautical miles, your geo coordinates and the button show on map in order them to be displayed on your android device map app.
