About OpenTrial Short Fair Trial App
Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Article 10: "Everyone is entitled in full equality to a fair and public hearing by an independent and impartial tribunal, in the determination of his rights and obligations and of any criminal charge against him."
The International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights recognises and protects a right to justice, a fair trial and equality before the law without discrimination in nearly every country in the world.
OpenTrial works to combat corruption and violence in justice systems and, to that end, we have produced a simple smartphone app. which contains a basic, generic checklist that can be used in prisons and courts around the world. It does not require much knowledge of the law.
It makes it far easier to understand, expect and demand fair treatment under the law. It takes the user through ten basic fair trial rights, asking simple questions to establish whether those rights have been complied with.
The app. is not only an ideal tool for the detained and their supporters; but it also makes it easier for bar associations, law societies, law firms, prosecution services, police forces, judiciaries, NGOs, diplomatic corps, etc., as well as individuals within these bodies, to apply fair trial criteria to live cases.
The modest charge for the app. will go towards funding the ground-breaking work of OpenTrial.
