About ShowItem
Above the picture are six items,
A text box for the code
A Save button, to be pressed after selecting an image with Select and typing in its code in the text box
A Select button lets you pull up images from your gallery
A Pick button that shows you all the saved codes. Picking one calls up the corresponding image
A Clear button, which empties the database
A button marked x which only deletes the current item from the database
When the care giver presses the Select button, she is shown a gallery of images on the phone. She picks one, which now appears in large size on the screen. She now types in a code, and presses Save. This process is repeated, so that every image that the disabled person wishes to find quickly has a unique code associated with it.
Now, phone is handed over to the disabled person, who only has to type in the code, for the corresponding picture to appear, or press Pick and select a code from the list shown.
This app is one of the outcomes of workshops conducted by Bapsi at the Helen Keller Istitute for the Deaf and the Deafblind in Mumbai, with their trainers and experts from the Homi Bhabha Center for Science Education. This work has been supported by a grant from isif.asia
