About VolunteerMe
VolunteerMe is a Verizon Innovative App Challenge national winning app concept. It was developed using MIT App Inventor 2 by a team of 5 middle school girls with the help of an MIT App Inventor Mentor.
Users can create accounts and get the contact information of local volunteering organizations. All entries in our volunteering database are appropriate for teens. Users can also filter results by a variety of fields such as Weekday or County.
VolunteerMe connects teens to local volunteering opportunities that are age appropriate. Through the use of Twitter in the app teens can post pictures or tweet about volunteering opportunities they are participating in. They can also view other users' tweets on the Inspire screen.
Teens earn 100 points for every hour they volunteer. Administrators for volunteer organizations registered in our system have QR codes for the volunteers. When a volunteer completes an opportunity they can scan the QR code and their points are added automatically.
The Leaderboard Tab shows all of our users' points and provides a competitive element to our app.
VolunteerMe is also used by the administrators of various volunteer organizations. The administrators post volunteer opportunities through the coordinator side of the app. These posted opportunities are then viewed by student volunteers with the volunteer side of the app.
VolunteerMe currently only provides opportunities in Maryland. Contact us at volunteermeapp@gmail.com with questions, comments, or opportunities you would like listed.
