About NoRoot Firewall

Firewall WITHOUT ROOT. Host name/domain name filtering, simple interface, fine-grained access control and no suspicious permissions on the firewall app itself.

* TO LTE USERS *
NoRoot Firewall may not work on LTE because it NoRoot Firewall currently doesn't support IPv6. I'm working on the fix.

NoRoot Firewall requires NO ROOT. It protects your personal information from being sent to the Internet. NoRoot firewall notifies you when an app is trying to access the Internet. All you need to do is just press Allow or Deny button.

NoRoot Firewall allows you to create filter rules based on IP address, host name or domain name. You can allow or deny only specific connections of an app.

Features
- No root required as the name NoRoot Firewall says.
- Fine-grained access control based on IP/host name/domain name.
- Simple interface. Easy to use.
- Minimal permissions. No location, No phone number.

This is the perfect solution if you want a firewall for android without root. It gives you a complete protection for your Android. NoRoot Firewall is like Drodwall for no root users.

I think is a good VPN overall but yet it still needs work. Some added on settings with features would be great such as access acceptance times for each net access type. Hidden IP private web search resource settings. Now this is not a must have but would be nice to see an updated animated world VPN home screen. I will give this app five stars and wouldn't mind paying for this updated change. Keep up the good work my awesome developers...

This app is the work of a genius! The idea of using a fake VPN connection to manage internet access is in heard of. A feature you might want to consider adding is the ability to have a pptp vpn connection running at the same time. Or an ad blocker. I make custom rules to block ad networks. Thanks so much for saving my data and helping me block ads!

Eh, do you have a real clue? I'm looking for integrity accompanied with digital engenuity. Does it exist still or are we tilting with Qijotes windmills and rolling boulders up mountains in the matrix.

I have an old phone and it was draining battery, until I put this app and it showed me which programs were constantly getting in touch with their servers. I removed the programs and now the phone is perfectly fine. I use the up to control access to Internet and it is great. The only issue is the when the firewall is turned on it does not update my Yahoo and Outlook emails. Not sure why. But I can leave with it. I just turn off the firewall few times per day to update my emails.

Simply the BEST and ONLY consistent no root firewall out there!!! Been using for years and recently used it to shut down apps side updating bypassing my Google play store disable settings! (Damn Facebook don't want your updates that remove features!) Great simple control of installed apps without having to root device to do it! ????????????

Please add some settings. I need to know if the app is running at all times. Right now the only way to find out if it's running is to open it. A better way is to display an icon on the notification bar. If the icon is there, the app is running. If the icon is not there, the app is stopped. It dies for no apparent reason and I am not notified. If it requires my action, either add a second notification or a pop-up but it has to show me that is running.

I love this app. I can track any traffic information being sent out to a server from my device and choose to deny or allow for that information to be sent. Very useful tool for android devices, limiting internet access of undesired information helps provide one layer of many layers require to protect your device and your local network. This firewall / VPN software is customizable and it is not accessing any external server for it to work, all is internal in the device. Highly recommend it. For those who believe that their device do not access the internet often install this and you'll be surprise. Personal note: Please make a Linux and windows version of the software I'll definitely buy a one fee for it. Thanks for the software

The configurations, that can be made are seriously awesome. It would the perfect program, if it would not crash after a couple of hours. Due to the Author promised a fix for IPv6 more than 3 years ago and there had been no update in the meantime, there is less hope, that this ever will get fixed. Will uninstall now...

This is by far the best Root free firewall for Android. Works absolutely flawlessly and is constantly updated and maintained. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a simple to use yet powerful rootless firewall. However this app appears to be using a lot bore battery on Android 8.0 I'm unsure whether it'd actually an issue with this app, or with Android itself. However I'm simply reporting what I have found after my update.

This app is the only reason I'm no longer being gauged by data charges! Once you set up each apps access (wifi or data only or both or nothing, whatevs it's only a list of tick boxes nothing scary) it does what it says on the tin. Make sure you set it to start when your phone boots on the main screen and all is well. It's a must have app, as your other apps (& android) WILL use data in the background over a better and stronger wifi connection. Daft of android I know but thank god for firewalls, especially if you don't want to micromanage your data connection. Great app!!

Super simple, clean, and seems way more stable than my prior firewall. Only thing missing is an option to restrict apps that are running in the background. Lots of apps need to communicate, but only if I explicitly launch them (saves data and battery). I'd pay for that feature!

I can't seem to keep this thing running for more than about 24 hours. It keeps shutting down and turning off the firewall which then leaves my phone and data unprotected. This is an amazing little app that does a good job to help secure outgoing connections from your phone... while it works...

Thank you for this AWESOME app. Believe it or not it also blocks those annoying mid clip ads on YouTube which saves me a ton of data. Installed on my daughter's device and now I have better control over what programs she can access the Internet with. If there was only one thing I could ask for would be an option for a password input so that she would not be able to change any access herself. I am also amazed at the pure ease of use and it is amazingly user friendly. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU. I love this app and I appreciate all the hard work everyone put in to develop this awesome app. It does exactly what I need it to do. I wish I had found it sooner.

Impeccable, friendly and easy to use. Now, I can keep a control on activities of other applications which went unnoticed. It has helped me a lot and addressed almost all of my concerns. Feel comfortable while using internet and now I am on a driving seat managing all movements of automated machine. Lovely and enjoying this application.

With the new system update for security the firewall is stopping my mail from working with gmail. Only way to get it to work was to turn off the wall app. Clickimg every app listed system or user to pass data did not help. No prompt for allow for the app reason to open up a path. Note 5 on Nougat 7 with AT&T. Had to remove and buy another firewall that works. Please fix this issue. I like this wall much better. Ron @ Memphis, Tennessee USA

Symp, Great.... A long time user. Thanks for a no root firewall without holding back some features locked and arrange all in simple interface; no cosmetic monkeying on resources. If you can add a feature to download and use hosts files with NoRoot Firewall there will be no competitive firewall on play store. Thanks Again. .........Your User

This app is the best when it comes to data blocking especially when your device is not rooted. It really works like a charm. It allows me to grant internet access to a particular application. My data having been draining away drastically all this while. Thanks to Noroot firewall because I now know that every inbuilt and third party applications are all hungry for our monthly data plans even the least application you never expected such as torchlight application on every android

Works pretty well. Good for limiting background data usage and making you more aware of what apps are using the internet (even when you are not using them). However, if you are looking for a robust solution, this is probably not for you. I dig it though. It would be nice if there were a "firewall reset" button to make apps have to ask permission again and a single button (or drop down box) of various custom configurations. As it is, I find myself giving and revoking permissions often. Still dig it.

I have been using this for a while now on my Xperia to wrest control from the stock o.s. However you lose sight of the data usage on a per app basis because Android logs it all to noroot. A useful addon would be a tab with the top 10 apps download byte count. If an auto reset of the count could be added on a day of the month too that would be splendid.

This is an awesome app, I love it! Only one issue...it blocks incoming and outgoing MMS including group messages on all messenger apps: stock messenger app for phone, Hangouts, Textra. I am on a Samsung Galaxy S4, however friends with the new Galaxy S6 have the same issue. This causes me to not use it anymore. PLEASE fix this issue. Also, if possible add the ability to block Apps from accessing cell service/wifi when running in the background; help save data and battery power.

For the first time in years, I feel like I have control of my phone again! Can't describe how good that feels but THANK YOU!! Still trying to figure out some things w/blocking & allowing access but that has to do w/my lack of tech knowledge. Love the way this app is set up--actually HELPS me learn more w/the easy toggles & the info provided in the Log. Great app all around!!

Intuitive interface, using a Vpn to connect to the firewall app is brilliant. aka.. no root necessary. custom adresses are easy to enter for those bothersome ip's. I haven't tried url's yet. I use wall watcher to verify the wifi connection to my router. This app works like a champ. the pending access tab is great. what more could a network engineer ask from a free app. God Bless!

X70%
by X####:

That's an awesome app to control data access. But it lacks a feature to give data access to a specific app for only a "one time" basis. I would like to allow an app to have access to mobile data for that particular session but not allow it to access data always. I mean when I stop the firewall, it should go back to the settings I defined previously. There is no different default setting option and one time grants. I am scribbling in a hurry. Hope it makes sense.

Does what it says. You can monitor and regulate those extra chatty apps and control the traffic in your device. Love the functionality, permissions balance without root access. No devious behaviour by the app itself as far as I know. Only thing this app needs is to differentiate between foreground and background connections. But 5 stars anyway, for minimal permissions, being simple and efficient, free and ad-free.

It would be great if we could also get to know the amount of data each app is accessing. You see, I downloaded an app to check that but it shows that all the data is being accessed by NoRoot Firewall. That's because all the data is being rerouted through your app, I guess. And I don't want to remove this much useful app. So, if you could add that feature, it would great! Thanks!

Very useful to identify background communications. May not save battery directly, since apps eat battery "attempting" to connect... in fact it seems battery consumption could potentially be worse by using a firewall app.. its most usefulness comes from simply seeing what hidden communication is taking place & maybe some saving on data plan for those on tight budget. May also save battery by getting rid of communication happy apps.

Works great and is super easy to setup. The first time you start the app let it run for a few minutes before you start accepting/denying traffic. The list jumps around a lot in the beginning as new items are added. It does have a moderate impact on battery. Over a 10 hour period the app consumed about 26% of my battery, the only thing that used more power was the screen

X70%

Simple to use. Some apps will not work even if I allow it. Has to shut down firewall to work! The reason is that, those apps do more than going on line. Over all I do like it. If you can add a feature like asking you permission to allow an app to access the net, then I give you 5 stars

This is probably the most important app I have on my phone. Allows you to stop apps from using your data and slowing down your connection. Within 3 minutes of installing about 30 apps had already tried to access my connection! My only issue is that because it functions as a vpn I cannot use my vpn when the firewall is on. A small price to pay to not have to risk bricking my phone trying to root it! And no ads!!!! It is truly free!!! I wish I could add a 6th star! This app deserves it! Edit: Love this app!

As a result of installing this application I have emailed a number of app developers to ask why their apps constantly attempt to communicate with Facebook which I do not use. Lots of them also attempt communication with Amazon. All unauthorised use of my data. Claim back your data and personal information….. Install this app!

I have been using this app for a lot of time now but has noticed something strange recently. The app keeps turning off after some time.. I need to open the app every here and now! Earlier I only used to open it only when I switched on my phone and it stayed there till switching off... But now it keeps turning off at random times.. Please fix this... (Note 4 Android 5.0.1)

This app basically let users to either allow or permit access to certain IP addresses or DNS host names on the Internet. Without knowing which destination IP addresses to make some app to work, it is required to do trial and error. Fun to experiment with when you are network engineer or administrator. Otherwise it may take some effort to appreciate the functionality.

Been using this for months. Wish I could root my phone but since I cant, this is the next best thing to a full fledge firewall. Love the controll it gives me because simply put, if an app doesn't require Internet then there is absolutely no reason it should be calling home or anywhere else for that matter

Upgraded Galaxy Tab A to Marshmallow as requested and now NoRoot Firewall doesn't work. When ON it denies ALL internet access despite the settings and so it has to be OFF to get internet. Which is fine when don't need internet but pointless when you do - as it is off! Previously worked well with both Kitkat and Lollipop but now needs to be urgently upgraded by the developers.

X70%
by X####:

Probably the most awesome application designed ever! You could however consider adding few more features. 1 ad blocking could be integrated and be made to apply at global level. 2 concept of redeemable permission where an app could be granted permission for say 15 minutes and then on expiey of time fresh permission needs to be granted . 3. Hotspot can't work if the firwall is on.

G70%
by G####:

If it can't differentiate between foreground and background data, it is allowing massive amounts of data to pass through unchecked. Especially bad with apps like Facebook and anything from Google. Texts, pictures, contacts, etc STILL pass through without any control whatsoever. Data is either completely free to travel, or can't move at all. There needs to be more options, otherwise I can't use this app as it stands right now

Still great after using it for the past year... If your are curious to see how often those apps are sending out days then install this. You will then see why your battery life is so bad. No additional permissions required. Works great even for a novice. Ome improvement would be after deleting queued up requests I'd top automatically close they Window. Minor but it would be nice. It is interesting to see how many apps are sending non-encrypted data via port 80.

Working out. Runs in background, great. Doesn't conflict with the security VPN, and that is critical. Privacy, even on cellular, is important nowadays. Very good. If you can't figure it out, get a basic phone with a camera. Wondered why you got quietly deleted: having me standing in the playground, allegedly in a tunnel, is not secured anonymity. Once again into the dust bin.

It's a great app for those who want to control which apps access the internet but the biggest issue is the battery consumption. Where previously I could go a day without charging my xperia z5, with this app running I need to charge twice a day. As soon a I turned off the firewall the battery consumption returns to normal. It's a real shame cause I really like this app. Hopefully the devs can resolve this

Four stars, but it is seriously worth five, just that I like to keep 'em on their toes. Look, a suggestion; a time-stamp for when a rule was added would have me edit this and give it a fiver! But since last update was 2014 I guess no more work will be done to it.
