About Art for Life Equitas
ART FOR LIFE is the longest running, biennial fundraising gala benefitting Equitas Health (AIDS Resource Center Ohio [ARC Ohio]). This year we have joined forces with the Pizzuti Collection and the Columbus Museum of Art to create broader visibility of featured artists, as well as provide access to regional and national art collectors.
Beginning in 1989, Art for Life was created by local artists and donors who believed there was a need for an event of this caliber to raise awareness and funds for HIV/AIDS services in our community. The first Art for Life was held August 5, 1989 at the Battleship Building in the Short North with 58 artists participating and 115 pieces to be auctioned, including famous memorabilia. The event, currently the largest charity art auction in central Ohio and among the largest in the Midwest, includes a live and a silent auction.
Over the past 27 years, Art for Life has raised nearly $2.5 million, with the 2014 event raising $514,000. Primarily benefitting Equitas Health, this year a portion of the art sales will support the Pizzuti Collection’s community based educational programs. Art for Life enables Equitas Health to continue providing comprehensive medical care, pharmacy services, case management, housing, HIV/AIDS testing and counseling, prevention education, linkage to care and advocacy statewide.
The 2016 Art for Life event will take place September 24, 2016 at the newly opened Margaret M. Walter Wing of the Columbus Museum of Art. This will be the inaugural Art for Life in the 50,000-square-foot modern art annex.
